Consumers can be annoying in this aspect, in reverse.

"I want to order this item over the phone."

"Ok... here is your total..."

"Well, that is more expensive than the web page..."

"Because we have to pay for the phone, we have to pay for me to talk to you, we have to pay for the system I'm checking you out on... it isn't as EASY for us to sell it to you over the phone as online - so, it costs more this way. Would you rather use the kiosk, or me?"

This is really pissing me off because so many stores do it.  You can "Order online and pick up in store in one hour" and there is a price.  If you go to the store for the item it is a higher price.  They won't give you the online price in the store.

I would think it would cost more money to pay someone to get the item and bring it out to the car then it would be for me to pick up the item for myself.

PetSmart and Walgreens both do this.

I had a coupon for the $10 item, I didn't want to order it on my phone and stand there as they picked it out.

I have worked at a place which followed similar practices. Reasons are many.

First reason is that you sometimes have price agreements with your providers that lock your prices either in retail or in the website. Or both. Specially if they are trying to position their brand and they don't want you to sell their stuff much cheaper than some other brands positioned as "cheap crap" in the amrket :)

Second reason is that the Internet is a different market and everybody knows it. If you place a product at price X and the next online store places it at X-0.01, it is much less likely you are going to make the purchase, which drives the prices down because a) there is more competition that in meatspace and b) people in meatspace does not watch the prices that closely, but on the Internet they do.

Thir reason is that you often want people to use the Interrnet for buying from you, and thus you offer a bonification. An Internet customer first pays... once you have his money, it is less likely the customer will backoff. Also, lots of brick-n-mortar customers suck cocks - in specialized markets, somebody will often show up, waste your time with a dozen questions, then place a reserve for an item and never show up for picking it up (or paying for that matter). It makes sense to funnel all this process through an e-commerce site so you can reduce the burden of the sales people.

The store is close to the house, most likely I will buy elsewhere from now on.

And if you need the refrigerator to fit in a fix space, the area of usable cubic feet will be smaller.

Just glad i saved it from last time when our old fridge gave up.  Was going to be a week for delivery "we cant do that" so i ran and grabbed the biggest mini that would fit in the jeep.  Been using it to store canned goods since. ( off of course )

Bingo. I learned a long time ago to use a "disposable name" when slaying dorks on large sites. The things I tend to say on those sites are politically incorrect, often in very poor taste (but they deserve it), but not illegal.

I wish I could share some of the names I've used, because they're usually pretty damn funny. But that would obviously be counterproductive.

I also learned that the "zero width space" (U+200B) character can be used to invisibly defeat profanity filters in many forum sites.

I've sometimes considered this - but the hassle of setting up "sock puppet" accounts is more effort than I want to put into it.

And on the other hand, having to hide who I am to say what I believe isn't something I'm real OK with, either. The last guy who was trying to dox me, who was sending me anonymous e-mails calling me a scared, white racist coward...

I responded, "I'm not hiding who I am, where to find me. You're the one doing that."

And that was the last I heard from him.

I'm not OK with it either, but I'm even less OK with the possibility of having my life destroyed by some pink-haired twat who gets off on cancel culture.
I am happy to use my real name, or my favorite alias, on technical forums, home improvement forums, etc. but anything involving politics or culture gets an unassociated personna.

I say what I mean and I mean what I say, but I will only use my real name if I am assured that I will only need to defend my remarks to reasonable people.

I understand making this choice.

If I could go back and choose a pseudonym for my earliest published writing - I probably would - but I became a semi-public person under my real name.

And I've been getting death threats and harassment since the Internet started.

By at least one guy who ended up in prison for murdering someone, and then had his sentence extended for trying to take out another hit while in prison.

I guess I've become a little calloused to the threats.

Today on Pandora there was a commercial,

"20 years ago, there was an explosion of hip hop in the United States. There was also a correlating rise in mass incarceration. Join us as we discuss the relationship between hip-hop and mass incarceration on NPR..."

The commercial made it pretty clear that it was going to be a discussion of the racist persecution of those involved in the hip-hop culture.

My first thought was, "maybe 20 years of music glorifying gangs, violence, drugs and criminal behavior is responsible? No?"

It is called "Louder than a Riot".

The world is officially in crazy town.

https://www.npr.org/sections/publiceditor/2020/11/25/937246187/npr-released-an-explicit-podcast-on-hip-hop-and-prison-heres-why-it-matters

"Starts with a conspiracy

The co-hosts kick off Louder Than A Riot with a widely discussed story about insiders from the music and prison industry colluding to exploit hip-hop artists by promoting crime in their music, then filling prisons with their fans. In the first episode, listeners hear these allegations in the contents of an anonymous letter, purported to be authored by an attendee of a secret dinner in the 1990s where this agreement was hatched."

I suppose so. I mean, it was my wife's playlist... so it is things like... DMB and Coldplay and Mumford and Sons and Milky Chance...

BUT, she does have herself in Sacramento - so it is probably a demographic algorithm that predicting she would be really interested in the correlation between hip hop and a secret conspiracy to glorify crime among black inner city youths so you can mass incarcerate them for profit.

And then of course, stick them with a vaccine that will recode their DNA to make them mindless drones for the Communist Left. ;)
