I am getting over a cold. I noticed that Halls has started printing little bits of inspiration on their
wrappers, this has got to stop. When I am sick I don't want to see "Put your game face on", "Get through it",
"Get back into it Champ!" "Seize the day!" Seriously I don't want to see this crap. "I am sorry your sick"
would be fine, but I don't want to be motivated when I can't breath.

I dunno, being motivated to breathe would seem like a pretty good idea if survival is desired...

Bah.

Survival is overrated.

But they are not motivating to breath, I think they are trying to motivate you to work harder during your cold.
These are written by people who are not sick.

Well, honestly, aren't you kind of tired of metabolising air and food? Would you not rather just join the universal entropy and stop providing effort?
I mean, we're headed to full entropy anyway, so why not aim for that and be more efficient?

They are going to let people use cell phones on flights. JEBUS chrips that means I will have to sit next to
some loud talker for three f'ing hours.
Maybe the whole plane will listen to the conversation.

This has bothered me for a while, I have a Samsung Galaxy S3, if you hit the home button too many times
the S Voice program starts. It asks me to confirm the disclaimer which I don't want to do because I don't want
to use the program. There is a way to disable the home key short cut, by starting the program and going into
the programs settings. So I have to accept an agreement with a program to disable the feature of it
automatically starting beacuse I don't want to use the program. Catch-22.

That's ok, on the Galaxy S2 if you push the power button too many times it gets stuck and the phone becomes a worthless brick.

I wish this guy would stop talking. He is giving an introductory Linux discussion and is horribly wrong in just about every way imaginable. It's painful.

It's also really boring. Any chance to get these (mostly Windows-oriented) people interested in Linux is dying a horrible
painful death.

I just learned from him that emacs is sort of a GUI but sort of a VI.

Please kill me.

"Most Linux distributions have a special password for the root user. For most of them, it's 'toor', 'root' spelled backward."

This is true for exactly one distro that I know: Kali Linux, which is a very specialized case and not meant to be installed on a computer.

My favorite part is how he generalizes his very limited experience to the Linux community as a whole, and manages to mess it up most every time.

Also, "root" is a first initial + last name login. His full name is "Reginald Oot"

That's actually possible. There's a (semi) popular last name 'Ootmerssen' that could be shortened to 'Oot'.

I recently installed a small business server at a clients site, for some reason their admin account has always been "root" on windows. So when I saw the full name fields I actually called him "Ronald Oot" or something like that. A few days later, the boss asked me who this Oot guy is, she never heard of him and he does not work there. Blew my funny fuse, I couldn't even laugh.

If you replace "Linux community" with "topic of the lecture" it is almost always true, sadly. At least, if you are not in an university context, and even there it happens.

Subject: Looks like we found the world's worst moving company.

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Looks like we found the world's worst moving company.

They quoted us for an 8 hour move, getting our family of four moved out of a very modest house, less than 1000 sqft.  We were packed and ready to go.

First things first: when they said "five guys" they meant four guys who spent more time arguing with each other than doing work, and one driver sitting in the truck all day not doing any work.

They showed up an hour late, and spent the first two hours just emptying my garage.

All told they spent 15 (FIFTEEN) HOURS.  Four of those hours were spent unloading the truck a grand total of 10 (TEN) FEET into an empty garage being used for storage.

They BROKE two of the lights and a wall switch in the basement, marred walls to the point where I had to repaint for the new owners, MOVED FURNITURE OUT A SECOND FLOOR WINDOW instead of going down the same stairway everything originally moved up on, acted in a generally unprofessional manner and displayed a complete lack of competence through the entire process.

These guys didn't work as a team either.  They were just a bunch of guys all doing their own thing.

All told, the move went SEVEN HOURS BEHIND SCHEDULE and more than $1,000 OVER BUDGET.

We had to move on short notice and these were the only movers that were available.  Now I know why.  This is a horrible moving company and I hope they go out of business as quickly as possible.

They probably won't go out of business if they get away with charging twice the amount of time it takes to do a move.
