About had to kill 2 people on the road today heading home.

Got to a light. it turns green, people in front playing with their phones.  Beep. They didnt bother to look up.  Went around them.  As they flipped me off.    Then they ran me down so they could throw stuff out their windows at me, Then suddenly veer off to hide in a apartment complex like the cowards they are.   Looked like 2 of those import Mexican gang-bangers.

They came close to not going home today.  They got lucky.

May have scratched the side window in the back. I am NOT pleased.

I was just talking about this behavior on my BBS... maybe this one too - in relation to, "If I were Thanatos or a Chinese labworker designing the perfect virus... people who miss lights because they're on their phone more than 4 times in a calendar year don't survive the snap."

In a case like you describe - they're cut down to once in a decade as their grace period.

But, due to their reaction, they get the first snap.  F-ing slimeballs.

If they had blocked me to jump out to start a fight, which i 1/2 expected to happen, it would have been a long morning, waiting for the coroner to show to collect them. Waiting for cops to fill out paper work. Then id have to stop and replace the ammo i wasted on them.

Something like that happened to me last August or so. Latino guy, probably with a criminal record, got all road-ragey at me.

Almost got killed.

Do not engage. They're not worth it.

I wasn't, unless they stopped in the street and tried to block me then they were done for. I refuse to be a victim of that nonsense.  I suspect they were trying to shatter my windows then hit me with more rocks to get me to stop. It all happened far too fast to call cops at the time, and after it was over, not worth calling them out to see me.  Tho i did submit a complaint with them when i got home, just so they know something happened down in that area.

Even if i was still 25 and did consider it, they went into apartments, with one way in one way out, so a great place for them, having the home turf advantage, and with their other buddies that live there.  I could take on 2 if i had to, but not an entire gang.

Huge storm last night.   So the park is flooded. Took one of the dogs to play in the water. ( well actually both, but no problems with first dog )

City road truck putting up a road closed sign . Walk up to it, around it. City dude " Road is closed "   "Ya. we are going to the waters edge for her to play."  " i'm asking you not to "   "well, we are going to anyway ".  Didn't even slow down.  This isn't Nazi Germany, f-off.

I visited a website today, I heard they were having a sale on discounted merchandise.  I was greeted with this:
>>  Store is currently closed due to COVID-19. Please visit our online store.

On the webpage for the online store, it said to visit the online store.

I scrolled back up, it had a graphic, "Click here to visit the online store", which when you clicked, opened the graphic in a new tab.

May not be a new thing, but i just noticed: Companies are getting what is in effect free AD placement out on places like Sourceforge and GitHub by creating 'empty' projects.

Do a search on 'features' and in a few hits you get this wonderful presentation, no project files, just a "call us for a quote".

F-ers

I love it.

I doubt Github counts as a Free Open Source platform.

The really hardcore FOSS advocates usually prefer their projects hosted elsewhere.

I tend to agree, it used to be, but even before MS got involved it veered a hard turn.

So, Capitalism has been perverting the FOSS concept and acquiring their core-sites for its own purposes far longer than since people figured out how to hack it to advertise their projects - driving the "hardcore" FOSS folks even further underground and into the backwaters of the Internet?

Ok. Not sure this is *better* or how that could conceivably be a "win" for FOSS advocates.

"Hah! We didn't lose Github because of this! We lost it LONG before!"

*walking off smuggly with an "I showed Paranoid Delusion!" look on his face*

The ones that annoy me the most is 'we are opensource' until you get there.  Oh, ya, we give you a bit of old source that wont do squat, without buying modules.

No, that isn't how its supposed to work. "Freemium" isn't OSS.

I have nothing against FOSS as a concept. It compliments, co-exists and creates competition and innovation with closed source projects.

But the activists/evangelists - they're as bad as anyone else selling a religion.

Not evangelizing in this case, only feel that one should not take advantage of the other side, by misleading potential 'customers'.  ( in either direction ).  Just be straight with everyone.

Ah yes, the old "community edition" trick. Paint the product with the lustre of open source, help yourself to a bounty of open source underpinnings, and then sell a premium "enterprise edition" that does what someone actually wants it to do.

Most people understand this trick at this point. Smart people don't host on GitHub. Really smart people never did.

My favorite example has always been Zimbra, which is crap, but was well-funded crap at the beginning so they made a lot of news doing what Citadel already did. Oh, and let's not forget Mac OS, which is basically FreeBSD with a proprietary layer on top.

And dont get me wrong, i'm 100% ok with commercial products.  Its the 'lets pretend and see who we can trick' ones that piss me off.  Just be honest about it is all i ask. You can make money being honest, really you can.

My preference of course is 100% open code, and if you want/need support from the developers, you can pay $ to get it.  Even "priority bug fixes" to paying customers is ok. ( just roll them in eventually.. ).  i guess i'm ok with paying for custom modules too, that never get rolled in. As long as normal development of new stuff does.

Well at this point I think the only honest business model regarding opensource consists in having your "Community Edition" out there for the grabs and then sell _services_ that involve such edition. Kind of what Nextcloud does with their Talk service. Talk is free but it can only support conversations among so many people -because of technical reasons-, so if you want massive conferences, you have to incorporate their signaling service.

BUt on the other hand, they are a bit dishonest because they hid their documentation for High Availability (which was never good to begin with) becuase they want you to hire them to set it up if you want it youself.
