1 of my accidents, i was not even moving. idiots hit me from behind. The other, i was trying to stop for a light.. so i was almost non-moving.
One, broke my neck ( which healed ) the other, tore a tendon in my hand. Was repaired but some 20 years later, but the entire arm is about 75% of what it was, and wont get better. ( hand is about 50% ) That tendon runs all the way up into the elbow, and had to be stretched to reattach to the hand.. so you can guess the long term effects for movement. The constant pain sucks too. One of the few surgeries i wish i didnt have. Should have left it alone. Sure, weakened hand, but at least the arm would have been ok and i bet not constant pain in the hand, just when the tendon would flop off the knuckle from not being careful. ( sorry, been an overly painful day so its on my mind )

No joke, my uncle fractured his pelvis & was in very bad shape after a driver left-hooked him when he was on his bike.
I mean... the problem here is that getting average drivers to understand they're actually the biggest danger on the road - is nearly impossible.
I used to be able to go into any arcade, when my daughter was a kid - watch the "reaction time" game until the jackpot got big... go up, and walk away with the jackpot every time on just a few attempts, often the first one. There is a reason those games are often "racing themed" games. I don't think people with middle of the road reaction times understand how different your experience in EVERYTHING in the world is when you have far quicker reaction times than average people. I could also use the rail gun in Quake III Arena, without a zoom, to get head shots, while on a bouncing pad, consistently. I'd just sit on a bounce pad, bouncing up and down, and rail everyone running around. They couldn't hit me, and I was one-shot one-kill.
This is a combination of natural abilities that lend themselves to spirited driving. Literally, I've avoided accidents that weren't caused by my speed, but by inattentive drivers, a number of times - where other drivers would have been in a wreck.
And there are people doing unreasonable speeds who do not have the skill to handle that speed. The guy who I mentioned, the AMA racer - he would go with packs of casual bikers on rides up into the foothills... and inevitably someone would try to follow his line at his speed and end up putting it down and sliding it over the edge of a turn... usually resulting in a helicopter ride back to the ER. People see someone do something and they think, "if that guy can do it, so can I..."
Knowing what you're capable of doing and not doing is a big part of being a *safe* driver - at *any* speed, in *any* conditions.

Grrrrrr. The headlight motors in the Fiero are sounding crunchy. Means that I get to rebuild them again soon, and replace the torque pins. To be fair last time I did that was perhaps 15 years ago, but its still a pain in the neck and not fun. And I still need to paint it.. And replace the motor mount.. and add that belt tensioner. Bla bla bla .. how about a 3.4 while im at it? I need a garage big enough to work in ( unlike now ) and a couple of free months.

Dunning-Kruger ;)
Yup.
Of course, the problem with Dunning-Kruger - is that everyone always thinks it applies to someone else, and never to them. :D

related to Dunning-Kruger, Tesla is still a young company that doesn't always know what they're doing.
https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a38423992/2021-tesla-model-s-plaid-by-the-numbers/
Quotes:
"But it wouldn't be Tesla if it didn't overpromise, and the Plaid can't get anywhere near the company's 200-mph claims. Our test car topped out at a governed 162 mph, no faster than last year's Model S Performance. Tesla is perpetually a few software releasesband new vehicles and assembly plantsbaway from delivering on its claims, and it of course swears that an update will unlock the true Plaid speed.
"But, trust us, you don't want to do 200 mph in this car. Even 162 mph was terrifying, wandering and nervous to the point that we were concerned about our ability to shepherd it between lane lines. The steering doesn't firm up enough with speed, making the task more difficult. At similar velocities, a Taycan is resolutely stable. Another reason to fear a 200-mph speed is brakes that got soft during our testing. Although our braking regimen isn't nearly as severe as what a racetrack demands, a warning message reporting the brakes' demise popped up on the dash. Between the flappability at high speeds and the iffy brakes, our helmets are way off to former FIA GT racing driver Andreas Simonsen, who piloted the Plaid to what must have been a harrowing 7:35 Nurburgring lap."
"The Plaid is a zombie at the limit, with nothing coming up through the two girthy grips at the end of the steering yoke. Getting that staggering skidpad number took far more runs than is typical because of the car's unpredictability"
"But the Plaid and its 2.3 lock-to-lock turns violate the first rule of yokes, which is that you never want to have to turn one past about 180 degrees."
Quickest car in the world, but unsafe at its designed-for top speed because Tesla screwed up the suspension and steering. This is not something a software update can fix. Tesla is not ready to compete with established supercar marques like Porsche.

I saw that too. if someone does not realize that 1/3 of the cost of an electric car is going to be the batteries, i dont know what to tell you.

WTF Ford. .No you cant tell me what i can do with my car. . Screw them.

This seems like a reasonable measure to prevent gouging.
Or to attempt to, anyhow.

So the little rubber grommet on my washer fluid pump tank is leaking. "no big deal, ill get a new one" 20 bucks each from Chrysler. ( it takes 2 ). "ack wonder what amazon has" 110 each.. I can get an entire unit WITH a pump for 50 bucks.
I think ill be picking up a 5 dollar tube of silicon sealant tomorrow :)
Thinking about tuning my 330i.
PD will be interested to know that there's an off-the-shelf software tune product now, called Bootmod3, which is essentially based on a rootkit for the ECU (also known as the DME, or Digital Motor Electronics, these days.)
This has the ability to lift the top-speed limiter for about $600.

Yeah... I looked into BM3 - even bought myself the Ethernet to ODBC cable in anticipation of doing it.
I think mine already has at least a stage 2 mod - based on the fact that it burbles and pops significantly - like, M4 level - in sport mode.
And a few stories of people bricking their ECU, at least temporarily - have scared me off on it for now. I might have a tuner do it for me.

interesting. The burble is a deliberate feature of the engine controller, as I understand it; deliberate injection of a few pulses of fuel at idle, just to make some noise for a second or less (stock)
as BM3 seems to be the most popular reflash, maybe you've already got it! From what I'm reading, you can't do burble with just a piggyback like the JB4
would be funny if you looked under the hood and found the prev owner left you a piggyback...
So, does a stock 2016 M235i have burble? The M4 absolutely does - and I'm sure it is a stock map. Yeah... the way my 235i hangs with the M4, with Mustangs and Challengers - I feel like I'm pushing more than the stock 340hp. I guess a good way to find out would be to dyno it. I haven't ever thought to look for a piggyback. It just never occurred to me to even give it a glance - but that would be easy to determine.
The problem with being flashed with BM3 without a license is - I can't reflash it or remap it. It passed smog - and I feel like the TAS analyzer would have seen the remapping - but then again, maybe Arizona isn't as strict on that kind of thing as California.
I'll have to record some video of it burbling and popping.
