Well that sucks, i do happen to agree with google this time, on forming a business alliance with Israel.
"Google staffers wearing traditional Arab headscarves barged into the California office of the company’s top cloud executive, while other workers staged a sit-in at the company’s headquarters in New York City to protest the tech giant’s ties to the Israeli government on Tuesday.
The pro-Palestinian employees, part of a group called “No Tech for Apartheid,” used social media accounts on X and Twitch to post images and live video of their takeover of the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based office of Thomas Kurian, the CEO of Google Cloud."
Pictures of them being hauled out by cops, all wearing masks so they cant be ID'd and fired on the spot.
and related, but not google, last week a pro Palestine protest on a college campus police action and arrests, called in by the school staff... arrests including omar's daughter.
When even the fundamentally woke entities like google and colleges are getting tired of it.. its a good sign.

Karma is a bitch. Google helped fuel the woke fire. Now let them burn in it.
And yes, I know about the guy who blogged about how he gave up trying. I have no respect for quitters. It is my policy to die on every hill. EVERY.
SINGLE. HILL.
I know i have been called silly for thinking it, but i still predict walled gardens for email, someday.

Everybody is ready to die on a hill, but not many are ready to kill for the fucking hill.
Still looking for something 'hard' to reference, but was reading that several news outlets are pissed at googles plans to soon give you AI driven results first, instead of links to sources like it does now.
"google is going to put us out of business as no one will click a link to read a story if its already there in black and white" ( paraphrased slightly )
Also ripe for that word i hate, 'disinformation' as you cant just believe what an AI says without research ( any more than you can a person, or a single news source ).. Even me, the AI promoter I am, knows this. AI is not infallible and its datasets can be easily manipulated during training..
If I ran a website on the clear net, at this point I'd be tempted to block search engine crawlers.
I consider it fair use. No different than if i read the original myself, and then tell you a summary.

Some search engines are already including "AI" summaries at the top of their search results.
I'm really hoping the "AI" craze dies down soon because I'm sick of it. The summaries are awful and usually just ripped from the first couple of search results anyway. And as everyone knows, the "AI" is only trained from "approved" sources that have "disinformation" removed from them.
Dammit. I'm gonna have to put my SearxNG intance back up.
I get the impression they are going it make it 'less appealing' or 'harder' to look for the actual source so that most people wont bother. Not just a little blurb at the top, but active steering away from sources. I would suspect tho that perhaps some ad blockers will help filter it out. Donno. Not there yet.
AI in our daily lives is just getting started. Not that its new, but we have not seen anything yet, so dont get your hopes up that its just a fad, any more than the internet was, or electric light..... The Cylons are coming...
I heard Wendy's is replacing their drive thru order takers with AI.... Which may not be a bad thing, since so many of them are kids that are nearly illiterate and incomprehensible anyway...
( and i know i have said it before, while i DO totally agree that just like with humans, their training can be easily manipulated and in many cases is and one must use caution, its not all of them, some are far 'better' than others )

I run some websites on the clearnet.
The silly ones they can plagarize, since they don't contain usable information. It is a lot of "Hello, today I updated Horsepetter to version 1.0, find the new release in my gopher/gemini/fpt server."
The comercial ones are just stores. "Yes, this is a hammer. Very good hammer. Costs 15 bucks and you have a 5% discount coupon for registering."
I stopped posting valuable information for free a looong while ago. Sorry, as much as I want your horse to be happy, I am not going to post a hoofcare tutorial for it to be stolen or used by people who won't thank me. Nowadays I only publish on contract and I am soooo much happier for it.

I think the idea is cool, but there is also the fac that availability of information cheapens information, and when it is cheap enough it is not profitable to generate good information.
Explained in an easy way: if I get paid 50 bucks to review non-sponsored horse tack, I may go and purchase cheap equipment to review it and come out 10 bucks clean, but my ability to review anything expensive is limited. If my customer, who buys the reviews, is an ad-revenue funded site, they won't be able to pay me for anything better (unless their traffic is massive).
Have you noticed the avalanche of cheap listicles, reviews that only cover the basics of the item, and automatically generated reviews? They exist only because information is so cheap that sites cannot justify expending money on good content.
I think th only model that makes real sense right now is the open paywall the guys at Linux News Media use, which consist in billing you for a subscription and making the content openly available once it is commercially obsolete (which is a matter of months). I have seen some articles funded this way that documment a software project better than the original software project does, which ought to mean something.
Dammit. I'm gonna have to put my SearxNG intance back up.
You should. I miss it. I had to adjust to use something else lol.
The marginalia search engine was deploying countermeassures to remove AI produced content from their search results. Too bad Marginalia does not work with Searx(NG) as far as I know.
Not really. I tend to ignore them all. Been too much fake for too long to pay attention to them.

Tho related to the email thread, it is gmail..
Every week or 2 i go in to clear out the inbox on my gmail of all the garbage. I dont actually use it, but its needed for my Chromebook .. ( and i suspect YouTube, tho that is irrelevant now ). I also have a few old mailing lists that go there that i dont care about enough to change. AND anytime i get a text message it goes there...
its empty. not one message for a week. not even spam.
Tried a test from my home account.. never made it ( no bounce message either ). Tried from the office, it got thru, so the account itself isn't disabled or something.
I guess those changes they did recently really broke things for the rest of the world. Build that garden wall ..
