I take it you were not always allergic to fish? I ask because I developed a fish allergy in my early 20s. I
enjoyed fish until one day I was eating it and I just swelled up. I thought it was an odd one time thing until
it happened a second time. Several years later I was eating something and unknown to me it had sardines in it,
and I had an allergic reaction. Would like to enjoy fish again but don't want to try it. Shell fish didn't
bother me as much as regular fish. My cholesterol levels are a mess but I can't try Omega 3 fish oils out of
fear of a reaction.
You would be the first person I met that also developed an allergic reaction to fish if that is what happened.
The idea of good fish and chips (my best memory of London) makes me salivate right now. I was not allergic when I went to Basic at age 25. I was very allergic the day I graduated (the day after I turned 26). I'd love to know what exactly happened in between, but between the stress, the lack of sleep, the batteries of injections, and the acute bronchitis, I doubt I'll ever know for sure.
I've had crab and shrimp with no ill effects. But it's not exactly something I active experiment with.

Well, the idea with a 'tofu-meat' isn't that it's a good representation of the meat it supposedly immitates (which is silly), as much as simply a way to consume tofu that has some kind of flavor instead of the bland, boring stuff that it is on its own.
You wouldn't eat a potato without fixings. Neither would you eat tofu without some enhancements.
That they call these things 'chicken' or 'beef' is annoying, honestly, but probably their best way of labeling these non-chicken and non-beef flavored things they put into the tofu.
If someone handed you some flavored tofu, and called it 'Garden Delight', would that work better for you than 'chicken'?
Actually, someone ought to start selling 'tiger' flavored tofu, or other exotic animals. It's just as ridiculous as 'chicken' or 'beef', but with a kind of flare I would respect.
You do not eat most of the meats without a spice, dressing, topping or sauce. Especially not the cheap ones, since they are mostly watered ugly pieces of protein crap. Especially sausages are a proper example. So what makes the tofu/wheat "chicken" or "fish" is about the same amount of spice as the "real" chicken or fish has.
Sure, there is some native meat flavor, but you need to spent more or eat homegrown in order to be able to enjoy that. There is also a difference in the length of the protein fibers and the amount of fat. The fake meats have shorter fibers and really low fat ratios. Iirc I wrote that a short while ago in some other room here.
People often ask me why vegetarians eat the fake flavored stuff, I guess the answer is simply that you got used to the tastes when you grew up. There is also zero sugar coke, beer without alcohol, icecream made out of yoghurt and unleaded fuel, people consume the craziest things out of pure habit.

Congrats on your 4 month! In my first month I wanted to actively avoid all things tasting like real meat. My mother in law made me some fake meatballs and they tasted so much like the real thing (honestly, is the "real thing" really real? What do they put into them, if not the waste they scrap up from the floor of a meat factory?). I couldn't eat them. After 3 years or so, I started to embrace the some of the fake stuff. Some really is just awful.
Do trappist monks have fake sex? :)

I always hated when people say "It tastes just like..." Bullpukey. I do like Morning Star chic patties, they
don't taste like chicken but I do like them. They also make chic nuggets and with enough buffalo style hot
sauce and blue cheese I enjoy them. I tried the soy crumbles... meh, it was okay but as I stated before soy
does not agree with me.
I made myself tofu bacon once with a dehydrator, with enough salt and smoke flavor anything taste sort of like
bacon. It wasn't bacon texture and this is when I started to notice soy doesn't agree with me.
I recently tried the Almond milk non-dairy "Almond Dream" ice cream bars and they are very good. I don't think
they are vegan and they may not be vegetarian.
It's odd; the day i turned vegetarian was the day i, completely by accident bought some veggie burgers. Just wanted to see what they tasted like . Well they were ok but not much of a substitute and thats the last time i have eaten fake meat.
I thought "why not go veggie?" - i have always said i would like to, sounded like a good idea...
No pressure,if i want to eat meat then thats fine, but i see no advantage to tricking myself into it.

Yeah your right about not needing meat to build muscle (or not lose it), it's just easier maybe - i'm not 100% on nutrition yet but i eat alot of high protien food anyway - especially beans and lentils, it was just tempting - rather than the amount of cooking i would need do - to eat fish. Actually i don't actually miss any kind of meat yet! I enjoy all the cooking (or not salads and raw veg are damn tasty too), but will have less time for it all soon.
I'll have a read up on nutrition, it's something of a grey area really - i only know half the picture.
But i believe you, and anyone who says you do not need meat!I've seen a few vegetarian bodybuilders on the internet and they are big, great bodies and strong.
