Fucking hell. The guest list for our New Years Eve party has literally dwindled to zero. Last year there were about 30 people. This year, between people who are out of town, people who are sick, and even people who had a death in the family, it's literally down to zero this year.

My son is still having a few of his friends over so at least the food won't go to waste.

This sucks.

We dont celebrate it really. Mostly just wait for the idiots with the fireworks so i can tend to one of my dogs who is afraid of them.

Tomorrow, will be the same as today.. I really dont see the fuss.

Congratulations, I guess.

If you had complained earlier, I would have shipped some of my family to you, since I despise family parties and you like them so much.

One of my dogs went deaf as he went old. The advantage is he stpped bing afraid of fireworks.

That is something I like about horses. They tend not to give a damn unless you are firing the fireworks next to them or something.

I figure the only excuse you need to go party/visit with friends/family, is just go do it. Don't need to wait for special made up occasions...

Waiting, can be a bad thing. do it now. Not 'tomorrow'. Tomorrow might be too late.

I feel like this should be common sense among UI designers, but I guess it has to be said.

1) Things I want to click shouldn't move, and things I don't want to click shouldn't move into the path of things that I may want to click. In fact, just in general, nothing should move unless I do something to make it move.
2) If you just can't help yourself, then at least inhibit responding to clicks until a half-second or so after something moves. Bonus points for some kind of visual indicator when input is disabled and transitions to accepted (e.g., grayed out).
3) The above two rules should be enforcible by punishment of death when the platform is a touchscreen device. It's already hard enough that my pointer occludes whatever it is that I'm trying to touch. Stop also moving that shit out from under me!!

If you want to see the worst GUI in modern history, that is still being used. Check out soulseek.  Its your rant on steroids.

i want the network to live on forever.. but ya, the GUI .. die in flames.  Soulseek network is wonderful for alternative obscure items, the world i live in. One of the last places actually. Some of what i listen too, you cant buy, so no choice. ( and there are a couple of alternative GUIs.. there has to be... eeeeckkk )

They will tell you that making something more expensive will reduce demand for it. Then they will push to increase min wages to make employment more expensive.

It is not a coincidence.

BTW, my experience is that raising the price of certain products makes people siwtch to cheaper products rather than stop consuming the products. Yeah, Coca Cola is now more expensive, so I will just have Pepsi, fuck you.

I think in this case its all brands, as it was a tax on 'sugar drinks' in general. With the stated intent to reduce consumption.. And people just accepted it.

The way around it is to just make your own and flip the industry the bird... Its cheaper, and better ( ok, less bad ) for you since you control the ingredients..

What I meant is this:

Imagine they apply a tax on shoes.

Imagine there used to be shoes at 100 bucks, 80 and 40, and now, after taxes, they are worth 120, 100 and 60, respectively.

What people around me does is to move down the ladder due to the tax, rather than stopping using shoes. If you used to buy the expensive brand, now you get the next. If you used to buy the middle brand, now you buy the cheap one. If you used to buy the cheap one, you buy your next shoes in a pawn shop where nobody is paying attention to this shit.

It happens the same with minimum wage in many cases. People is not hiring *less* because it is more expensive, but the job itself SUCKS COCKS because bean counters want the added employment cost to translate to higher productivity. ie. if your work used to cost 1000 bucks and produced 2000, now it costs 1200 it has to produce 2400, and that means unpaid extra hours and the like.

Writing software is great fun. Writing software with other people has to be one of the circles of hell.

Will 2024 be the year that I finally quit bitching and jump ship to go do something else?
