It isn't any better in higher education. My daughter is currently finishing her first semester at one of the local colleges (she comes home every night so I can make sure she isn't getting "infected" -- if you know what I mean).
Most of her exams are remote, open book, unproctored, and she has several days to complete them.

"Higher education" is bullshit now.

It has been suggested that they had to significantly lower the academic standards to accommodate the modern student body, who are generally accepted on diversity instead of merit.

Not sure if this belongs here or somewhere else, so feel free to move it.

There is a guy on YT ( sorry.. its just where he does it ) that is a 'amateur' Egyptologists.  However, he is far more intelligent and thorough than the so called experts, and has no 'motive' other than finding the truth.

Recently he was able to finally go down there in person, and from what it seems 'pushed' it a bit to get some information that no one else has ever seen. Not saying they cheated the rules, but one example of the fraud down there is you cant use drones to look at things.. really? What are they hiding? And no i dont mean green men, but perhaps their bias and ignorance. But, some of the things they found that have never ever been seen by modern man, flips a lot of modern conceptions on their head with actual hard evidence ( no pun intended ). Specifically about the bent pyramid, but has ramifications beyond that.

And i would have almost killed to go there during the trip this summer. But, $, time and the heat would literally kill me.  He ended up getting special access as well. Most people dont get to go beyond the traditional ' gawkier line'. Which is useless.

I don't know if it is the case in the US, but here they had to lower the standards because otherwise nobody would get into a college class.

The problem is that when the equivalent to high-school level does not teach basic maths, when you go into college they can't assume you know maths. They have to teach you the maths you should have been learning in high-school.

Since they get students who aren't used to hard work they also need to lower the training hardships. This is the reason you get second year Engineers struggling with basic concepts of newtonian physics.

Or even getting out the current level of class.. ( like middle to HS or HS to 'outside' )

i didn't read it, but some story floated past my news feed earlier  " CNN: NASA Beams cat video from space using light from a laser!!"   um.. and?  Idiots.  Welcome to the 1970s...  Perhaps even earlier, but that was when i first heard of modulating light beams for communications in an official sense, not just theory.  Even built something ...

All of the Starlink satellites have laser comms and will eventually use them to establish a mesh. I like to think that it's just a cover-up and the lasers are actually weapons for Elon to zap Amazon out of existence someday.

If Musk used the lasers to cut Gates to pieces, would the lasers count as a gigantic wood chipper?

But ya, light communication is not a new thing, CNN needs to get out of their bubble a little.

Radio commewnications is already light-based data transfer.  Whether it's using some sort of RF signal or a beam of IR or visible light, it's all the same.  Why do people treat IR or visible-light based comms as different from radio when it's the exact same thing?

Because "laser" sounds better than "radio".

Especially if you put air-quotes around the word "laser" like Dr. Evil

For those of you celebrating Christmas ... Merry Christmas.

For those of you not celebrating Christmas ... Merry Christmas.

For those of you celebrating the commercial/pagan holiday and calling it "Christmas" ... educate yourself. And merry Christmas.

My son's girlfriend has an email address comprised of a cutesy nickname followed by @aol.com

I told her if she ever wants to get anything resembling a real job she's going to have to change it.
