Tail of the Dragon is amazing. Worth the trip.

A lot of traffic, though.

Maybe not this year.

Well, not sure if you meant traffic getting there or traffic on the Tail itself. The pictures of oversize semi-trailers are a good laugh. Reminds me of Vermont State Route 107 which has the same issue.

I was specifically thinking of images of semis on the Tail when I said that, to be honest.

Lots of laid down Harley's, too.

We regularly watch compilations of non-Russian dashcam incidents on YouTube.
Some are just really bad drivers doing really stupid things, some are accidents.
The IGlet has a dashcam and he has submitted a few clips of bad drivers he's witnessed. I might get them for the other vehicles ... but yes, I would definitely do a hide-the-wires thing.

There's other roads in the area too that are a bit less traveled....

Cherohala Skyway comes to mind.... And it's longer.

Have to do a road trip next spring -- maybe check out some place like T-Wall, or Rumbling Bald, work in a side trip on one of these roads...

Speaking of fancy cars with XM radio as standard options... I test drove an M4 last night. It was a previous daily rental from Hertz, and an automatic - I didn't spend enough time in the parking lot familiarizing myself with the transmission, so I was figuring it out while driving down crowded surface streets in Scottsdale Arizona. Lurching along in first gear trying to figure out how to switch from the paddle-shift to auto mode... I also forgot about the different modes, so my experiments with handling and acceleration were kind of pointless - as I think I did it all in comfort mode. Compared to the brand new M4 Competition coupe I drove the evening before - it felt like a Buick or Chrysler. It was probably far more impressive than that - but I think test driving the Competition Coup 1st was a mistake. I did accelerate from 0 to just under 100 getting on the highway - and I'm not sure if it was something on the highway, something with the tires, or something with the suspension or the front axle - but there was a weird vibration coming from the left front end.

Yeah... What I really want is a powerful convertible with a manual gearbox and 4 seats without a bunch of technology bells and whistles. I miss when BMW had 3 lines, and maybe two M series cars. Nobody seems to have the car I *want*. I want the 2021 M4 in a competition pro spec with a convertible top and a manual 6 speed transmission. I told my wife we should just get a M5 and I'll just keep my Z3 for top down driving.

Yeah, but I'm not a wrench turner - and also, something my wife can drive around town. BMW knows their demographic.

I went into an auto store to pick up a new air filter.  At one time the stores had those books to look up and find the correct model number for your vehicle.  Eventually they had "Computer" type database, you entered the information.  Now the stores have signs telling you to go to the stores website and look up the correct model number.

Of course now you can pre-order it and just go pick it up.  dont even need to search around the shelves.

It probably is a better way of doing things. We're just dinosaurs, like old men still carrying around checkbooks.

I actually stopped using checks close to 20 years ago. The day my bank offered to send them for me via "psudo electronic payments" i jumped. ( its where they would print/mail a check, not true bank-to-bank transfer. but it came out of my account directly so nothing for me to do but push a button ) I quit using them for groceries, gas and such perhaps 30 years ago.  They would wait FOREVER to cash them and it was a pain to keep track of. First went to cash, then later bank cards when POS terminals were available. Sure, with cash i had to pre-plan what i was going to get, but it was still better.

Had to set up something for direct deposit a few years ago ( i think it was to get an account with coinbase ). "the routing number you can get from a check" um...  ill need to call my bank.

Yeah. Most of our generation did.

But my In laws still write checks and carry checkbooks and most of their generation is in step with them.
