It's a screencap of a warning at the top of a Google search result
that says "It looks like the results below are changing quickly. If
this topic is new, it can sometimes take time for reliable sources to
publish information." and then it suggests you either check whether
sources are trusted or come back later.

It is too bad there are not many search engines with their own sizeable index. From the top of my hat I know:
* Bing
* Yandex
* Mojeek
* Gigablast
The last two are somehow independant.
Then there are the myriad small projects which have cool implementations but pityful indexes :(

Yes and no.
For one, running a crawler from an IP you control is a burden on you, specially if the crawler has issues that make it look like a denial of service.
And then, the performance is not great.
Which is a pity because I want to like YaCy.
My understanding is performance is based on the number of peers. so the more marketing we can do and get people involved , the faster it goes. And while i accept ti costs money, putting your instance on a VPS helps isolate your home network from potential issues.
Didn't mean to imply ALL problems solved as nothing comes without some bumps. I was implying the tendency for the bias you get from the commercial ones is resolved.
sort of like TOR/i2p/etc its not perfect, but you do solve the main problem its meant to, anonymity.

So what is that ... some sort of democratized search engine? That's
probably the best possible end state if the search results cannot be
manipulated or redacted by a search engine operator with an editorial
agenda.

YaCy is a distributed search engine.
The idea is you have your own instance with your own crawler and indexes. When you make a search, your instance asks the rest of the YaCy instances and their answers are pooled with the answers retrieved by your own index.

There are a lot of people still using Windows. Surely you can understand a desire to escape Microsoft products, even if it is misguided.

I recently have decided to migrate away from the goolge/bing padded-cell and discover new things for a change. Obviously it is difficult to find such things nowadays! I can think of no more fun I had than in the early 90s accessing the web through a telnet connection to wustl.edu library and using Lynx. Things only went downhill from there. No images, but lots of information that shaped me which would never happen now.

Not distributed but how about duck duck go? not perfect but better.
And as silly as it sounds, something like yandex, While still a huge corp i have found it less restrictive/biased ( for non-Russian things anyway, i cant comment about in-country bias ) than google.

Funny thing is if you ask google about Yandex, the first entry ( for me anyway ) was a hit piece on it..

All the search engines I know that aren't Yaci are centralized.
From the top of my head, fun projects that have their own index are Wiby.me (which indexes hobby sites and excludes bloated or adloaded sites), searchmysite.net (similar focus) and search.marginalia.nu.
There is also Gigablast, which is a bit more "pro".
If you want something more distributed there is Searx. There are lots of Searx instances acting as proxies and metaengines. Still not what you are looking for.
At my office, i'm sure its outright blocked. Especially considering who i work for. Last year they canceled all contracts with Russian based firms. So, not even going to try there. And, just last week i heard they blocked ChatGPT...
Funny thing about that, just today I got scolded by the corporate security goons because I used Yandex.
