Tap-to-click has been a thing for at least a couple decades.
I tried it on my office macbook. .Nothin ( Linux, not osx )
"generic" x86 Linux laptop. Nothin.
Just seems to be my 2 'flip' Chromebooks so far.
Will try my ARM Linux laptop and my 2 personal macbooks ( Linux on both ) this weekend.
Reading more, its not normally 'enabled' and depending on OS and windowing system, will decide what hoops you jump thru.
Going to have to try it however, as one of the reasons i hate track pads the is the click, it always moves the damned mouse cursor on me. But this touch-to-click.. does not.
Today ... ok not today, but two weeks ago ... I learned that wired and wireless mice have switched places. Wired mice are now the premium offering and every cheap mouse is wireless. At least in retail that's the case, anyway.
I do when i can, but sometimes its not overly convenient to whip one out when you are out and about from your home base.
( another reason i never noticed i bet.. )
I have mixed feelings about wireless mice. GOOD ones are decent. bad ones, are dreadful

I don't like to take any chances. I go wired as often as possible. If you do videogames in modern consoles, you know that running out of batteries in your wireless controller destroys your gaming night.
Im safe from that :)

And that's what I found when I went to the computer store ... wired mice tend to be "gaming mice" with big chonky controls and multicolor LEDs and brand names like "Mega Death Blaster 9000". I just want to point at things and not change batteries.
In the end I selected a simple Logitech wireless that feels good in my hand and has a blue and black color scheme that matches my keyboard. It doesn't have a zillion buttons but it does have the forward/backward buttons on the side, to which I've grown accustomed.

My mousie is a SteelSeries Rival 710. Costed me $100. Is good mousie. Not many frills. Does have two DPI settings and a button to switch between them, which is useful at times. 1200 DPI for pixel-purrfect operations, 2400 DPI for everything else. It also has a replaceable tail, because mousie tails seem to always fail at some point.
That alone is a great feature... That should have been standard from day one.

Sometimes we find them dead and dismantled thanks to the kitties, sometimes we find them alive and running around.
We can't figure out whether they're getting in, or if the kitties are bringing them in. Oh and last week there was a bird, that one had to have been escorted inside by a feline member of the household.
The fact that they're coming in so frequently and are often alive suggests that they are "getting in"
The fact that there are NO signs of mouse activity (scratching sounds inside the walls, trails of poop, etc) suggests that they are "being brought in"
I just can't figure this out.
That was like me last summer.
Getting that bucket trap, and nearly daily trips to the park to release .. finally cleared it up

Speaking of mice, my house is full of them right now. I don't know
why. We've lived here for eight years and there's been the occasional
mouse but we've had more than I can count in the last month or so.

Welcome to my world.
I don't mind mice in the barns. I welcome every mice and bird to nest in the barns. Horses love staring into newborn chicks to see what they are up to. It is when they get in the house when they start causing trouble. I had to repair some ugly damate to the electrical wiring of the house done by mice last year.
There is not much advice I can give beyond the obvious one. Place anything a mice would love to have as lunch in a secured place so mice don't have much of a reason to walk in. Have garbage, dog food, horse food etc. stored in containers. Then look for obvious infiltration poins to your house and seal them, so you get less mice in.
I once got a shack which suffered a bad infestation flooded by carbon monoxide. Not a solution I recommend.
I had a friend recommend me to keep a ferret at home. Mice are terrified by them and won't get in a house where one is present. The issue is that ferrets are every bit as destructive as a ravaging horde of mice, with the drawback that a ferret is to be treated as a pet...
Cat. Ya know, they evolved along side us for this very purpose.

I had cats when I was young. They were all lazy fucks and would not hunt if their lives depended on it. If you reduced their food ration they would go to the next house and bother the neighbourhoods for treats rather than hunt for mice.
Odd, i have had the exact opposite with my cats. Even my indoor cats who ware well fed and cared for, if they get to go out they bring home food to give us. Or if mice get in the house, its game on.
These days only certain ones go outside, if they will stay in the yard. To risky to let them wander around here. Just yesterday we were given a vole by one of the cats. Dropped it at the back door and walked in all proud.

The cats will solve the problem.
Even if they caused it, they will (eventually, when they get bored) solve it.
