Errr...

You can have solar panels, which would be the generator part, and then a pack of batteries, which would be the battery pack.

Is there people selling battery systems as generators?

Seems that is now the 'official term' for that sort of stand-alone battery pack now. ( portable, multi charge ability, built in inverter )

Honestly, i am not sure id consider a panel a generator, and instead more of a converter, but at least id accept it and it would not irritate me as much..

In a sense, even that diesel "generator" of yours is really just an energy conversion device.  Chemical -> Mechanical -> Electrical.  Solar panels convert photons to electrons.  In the end, everything is really just an energy conversion device.

Right ( and i was waiting for that analogy :) ) and why i would say i would be ok if people called it that. its not 'wrong' its that just to me, to be a "generator", it needs to be a mechanical entity.

Perhaps my age is showing. I donno.

Hey, if you want to be anal, a convential diesel generator is "only" a converter too. It converts dead dinosaurs into electricity...

Yes,  i just draw the line at mechanical conversion methods. "traditional thinking"

But if someone wanted to call them ALL converters ( be it to electricity, motion, whatever ), id be ok with it.

Imagine if Luke Skywalker had actually made it into town to buy those power converters. He would have avoided an awful lot of trouble.

So I've got a (soon to be former) cow-orker who about six months ago invited me to a Discord server called "Shitpost Central." My kind of place, I thought!
A safe space from the Cancel Karens (much like here). A couple of other folks from work were there too -- trustworthy people I'm comfortable around -- certainly not the kind of people who would report me to HR for wishing death upon Bill Gates too many times (yes, that did actually happen).

About a month ago I tried to log in and I was unable to. It seems I was removed from the server. He didn't say anything about it either. I figured I'm too spicy even for that place. But this week I'm at our semi-annual department wide conference and I learned that he booted *all* of the people from work.

My guess is that he did that around the time he decided he was leaving. Burning a few bridges, to be sure. So in a teams chat where he mentioned to me something about being declined an exit interview I said "so, when we're no longer cow-orkers are we going to get back onto Shitpost Central?" He said something like "I'm just going to keep it to my local friends here" ... which would have been mostly fine ... but then he capped it off with "also my girlfriend doesn't like you"

Yeah. I ended that conversation by calling him out as a simp.

Direct violation of the bro code. Bros before hoes. Always. (Unless you're married, in which case you don't let *anyone* get away with trash talking your spouse. But he's not married.)

And in case he's reading this ... dude, I still love ya, but get your shit together.

I have found that its best to leave coworkers out of my "outside life" in general. It just tends to work out better that way.  A few exceptions, but they are that, exceptions to my rule.

( one of those 'learned the hard way' things )

I can't highligh this enough. Romantic relationships are statistically more likely to crash and explode in your face than friendships with other bros. Therefore, it is utterly moronic to endanger a friendship in order to support a romantic relationship.

I see it all the time. It always goes bad. The guy ends up messing up with decades old friends and losing the girlfriend soon after because modern relationships just don't fucking last.

I'm going to go out on a limb here; I think the only thing this guy did wrong was to be honest about just ONE small part of what was going on.

In other words--if he'd kept his mouth shut about the girlfriend bit, all would be well.

Friendships, particularly coworker relationships, may have a bit of a sell-by date. It might not make sense to continue the friendship after the working relationship has ended. So there's basically nothing wrong with booting all the coworkers off the discord; I wouldn't even call that burning bridges because there might be a way for the friendship to continue in another capacity or within another venue. Just not the Discord.

Within the last two decades, I've left two companies on a sour note. There might be some reasons why he is simply unable to keep the coworkers on the Discord. Maybe that's his space to vent about the old office, now. If that's the case, then even if he does trust you, it might nonetheless be either (a) unwise or (b) inappropriate or (c) both for him to vent within your earshot.

But yes, "my girlfriend doesn't like you" is a bit of a dick move.

And from my perspective: I'm not married, but if New York State had common-law marriage, I would be. Such relationships have staying power, and to me, more value than some of the people who come and go from my life. There have been a lot of "bros" (coworkers and climbing partners) that have come and gone. But for the last 15 years there has only been one "ho", for me.

Personally I don't friend request coworkers on Facebook until after they are no longer coworkers. There is only one exception to this, and it's somebody I've worked with at 3 different companies at this point.

Some interesting statements I got this this week from family.

"You are too old to be watching The Son of Hercules Against the Mole Men. You should go out and get drunk or you won't make friends ever" (Fun part is this guy watched The Son of Hercules Against the Mole Men with me, but whatever)

"I am your mother and I can't stand you. Who in the hell do you think is gonna ever like you?"

I wish I had a stable job instead of multiple unstable jobs so I could just beat it.

That is like playing lotto, winning, and saying lotto tickets are a sound finantial investment because you got positive results.

The number of romantic relationships that go well is ridiculously low. Of most that go wrong, the problem is one or both members are being cheated or taken advantage of, so the relationship may look healthy on the surface but be rotten at its core. So many relationships are taken just because one of the members needs to be into one, or because social pressure.

I am sure my friendship is very low value to Mike my boardgame buddy, but it is still so much more valuable to him that the relationship he has with his girlfriend. The bitch is sucking out so much money and time out of him, but once she eventually kicks him in the butt, he will have nothing to show for all his wasted resources, but a few fucks and a broken heart.

I checked with a friend the official statistics for my demographic in my country. Chances of anything romantic working well are so slim that you should not risk anything important for them. I don't say don't go for them, but I say don't overinvest.

Here if we do that, and they still knock, its a 50 dollar fine.

They also have to have a permit, or the cops escort them out of the area.

Children suck.

Went to walk my dog in our local park. a crowd of 15 children were trying to tear down trees. As we walked up 7 or so pulled down 1/2 of one and applauded.. then drug it off to toss in the creek Wtf.

Cops were called.

These children should be in camps. Not in public.
