Ragnar - Whenever I get annoyed or frustrated I still pull out the
travel guitar and strum. Amazing how that works.

Excellent!

Except he doesn't seem to know how to tune it. I borrowed his office for a few minutes yesterday to take an unexpected call from work and found the travel guitar. Every string was flat ... by a lot.

Actually I do know how to tune it.. The last time it was tuned was three weeks ago. I hope you fixed it all.

I'm really impressed with these guys.

Leonid Vorobyev "and friends" are some musicians from Russia who appear as a cover band on YouTube. Most of the videos I've watched so far are covers of Chicago, and they play Chicago better than Chicago did. Every single one of these people is brilliant.

They are impressive. A very nice sound out of them.

If I ever have a chance to play in a cover band, I want to play Helter Skelter, so I can introduce it by saying "This is a song U2 stole from Charles Manson.
We're stealing it back."

We have lost, The Simpson's have retired Apu because it was a stereotype, Hank Azaria has said he *always* hated the stereotypical character.  Both Slash and Axle have said their songs are far too sexist.

Well, Hank Azaria isn't very relevant, and Slash and Axl both aren't relevant at all. They're just willing to do anything to hold onto the hope that they might once again be as important as Motley Crue.

I never liked Axl's voice at all. I thought he ruined the act. I'd rather listen to Velvet Revolver playing G&R tunes.

But I never pay for music anyway, for reasons that are documented, obvious, and don't need repeating.

Thank you, I am not the only one.  I understand that Axle has an impressive vocal range but his voice was like pinching a balloon as you are letting the air out,  like Katharine Hepburn voice in On Golden Pond.
Not to mention he is a diva.  I can not take him seriously.

I questioned when he became the singer for ACDC, but I don't go to concerts anymore so it didn't bother me too much.  ACDC shouldn't be, it is a solo effort, just call it Angus.

Axl, Bon Scott, Frankie Valli ... singers who specialize in the "abuse your voice register" are an immediate turn-off for me.

I think Axl's whine, gravel and monotone are unique and interesting - at least in his prime. A little drop of Janis Joplin in there, maybe. There were more annoying bands.

Anthrax has aged terribly for me. I hate the vocals. I ate that shit up in the day - so much for my taste as a 17 year old.

Motley Crue aged terribly too. They sucked in their heyday, got worse over time, and are absolutely terrible now.

I like their first album, which is very raw and has a lot of classic rock influence. Shout at the Devil is cheesy - but I can deal with it... and then, like Metallica, their later albums, the hit single was usually decent, but I have no real love for any of it.

I have been listening to some Mike Oldfield because of a recommendation I got in i2p. The Far Above the CLouds theme is epic. It is the sort of music you would play at an RPG game should the heroes be fighting a demonic dark bishop in a hellish Cathedral that is set on fire.

Mike Oldfield is great. Well some of his stuff is great, but a lot is forgettable too. 5 Miles out by Mike Oldfield is severly underated.
I just started listening to an artist called Fire-Toolz. Very awesome/interesting stuff. His music is kind of like a Vapor-Wave but with some screamo-ish lyrics which sounds like it'd be awful, but look them up on bandcamp or youtube. I have been listening to it non-stop for the last few days.

Sad but predictable that most people only know Mike Oldfield from spending their teens and twenties blissed out on hippie dust listening to "the Tubular Bells guy".

On a related note, Steely Dan is one of the best bands ever.

I was thinking about this - and I mentioned that while punk aged well and I still find it very listenable - metal did not. But that isn't entirely true.

Good metal aged well - and I still enjoy the Scorpions, Metallica in small doses, Megadeth, and a handful of other bands.

But Iron Maiden or Judas Priest? Not so much of a taste for that. DIO... some of the guitar work in these bands is excellent - but the lyrics and the tropes of the genre make it very difficult to listen to for any length of time.
