I will second this, I wouldn't say the songs they cover are 'really
crappy', I think they cover a wide variety of music. Some is crappy
pop music but they also cover the likes of Ozzy, Guns & Roses,
Radiohead & Aerosmith.
To be clear, I didn't say they exclusively cover (and improve) crappy pop tunes, although it probably came off that way. They do quite a variety of music, all of which is of very good quality.
My niece went to a concert they had a while ago. Oddly, I learned of them through her.

Nice guys finish last, they say. And I think there's some truth to it. If you try to generally be nice, folks walk all over you.
So, over time, you learn to hide your inclination to be nice in various ways.
Maybe you put on a curmudgeonly appearance. Maybe you adopt sarcasm. Maybe you make a lot of biting comments. Or maybe you intentionally start provoking people by hitting their buttons in certain ways. But at your core, you might still be a nice person who, when you get past the bullshit, does nice things, perhaps hidden away so few people notice, or timed for when the act really matters.
Now, I probably shouldn't out a nice guy trying to stay hidden. I probably should just ignore what I've read here and enjoy the entertainment. And I guess you'll have to judge for yourself if this makes me a nice guy, or a guy who is truly awful. But I don't think aahz is as terrible a person as he suggests here.
But I do think everyone who comes here likes to push buttons to some degree.

But, ignoring her voice, the lyrics... my god, the lyrics. At least with Porgy & Bess, you get to enjoy the contrast between atrocious (but thematically workable) English and an operatic style of singing that kinda makes the whole thing funny in some ways. But... this tune... *sigh*

25 year olds on the call with me gave me all sorts of crap.

Want to feel *really* old? I had a thought this week:
When I was an IGlet, I got really tired of the "oldies" station my dad always had on the radio. (The old WCBS-FM, for those of you in the Uncensoredland radio market.) And I just realized: him playing 1950's music in the 1980's is chronologically equivalent to me playing 1980's music now.
(Although it's interesting that the term "oldies" still seems to refer to 1950's-1960's shoo-bee-doo-wop type music today, just like it did 30 years ago. It doesn't seem to be a moving target.)
(Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go put on my letter jacket, pick up my steady, and head to the malt shop.)
From what I understand "Classic rock" now includes 80s bands. I hear 70/80s music played as background music and Stairway to Heaven was on a Muzak playlist around 1994.
These kids need to get off my lawn.
On YouTube there is an interview with Elliot Easton (The Cars) and another with Stewart Copeland (The Police), they both talk about how when they started the bands could interact with the local DJs which helped promote the music and the band. The music industry has changed, all corporate programming comes from New York City and it is very hard for a new band to make it because they can't get their music into the playlist.
Don't worry -- radio is dying, and then new music will have to pass through the same Silicon Valley gatekeepers who control everything else. :(
To be sure, I don't bother listening to the radio for anything interesting or new.

Unfortunately, advertisers may be killing Youtube, so I might have to find something else. Advertisers don't like it when their carefully produced commercial appears in support of a beheading someone published on Youtube in support of their radical bullshit.

I am not worried. I rarely listen to the radio, if I do the radio station is playing the same few songs they have been playing for years. I listen to my MP3 player, which has such a piss poor random number generator it picks the same few songs each time. The biggest difference is I don't have to hear an advertisement or the DJ making some stupid comment.
