SSDD, as they say.
Tue May 11 2021 19:06:19 EDT from IGnatius T FoobarSo I heard that "Palestine" bombed Israel with a bunch of rockets, and Joe Xi Biden scolded Israel and told them to stop being naughty.

Ah, well from that perspective, i would agree ..
I was just thinking form the US angle, as for a while we explicitly and clearly supported them. As we should. They are our allies, and about the only bit of free society out in that part of the world.

thanks. I really am not impressed with Biden - I admit that I didn't come into this term loving him. I really tried to judge him based on his accomplishments. Where Israel is concerned, he's on the wrong side of history.
Unfortunately a lot of people are. And its disgusting.
Personally i consider you guys friends and allies, and should be treated as such.

For the record, I don't consider Israel friend or Ally, but anybody whose existence bothers muslim powers aroudn that area deserves a thumps up just for that.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Israel mostly seems to want to just be left alone. I don't think they're totally "on our side"... but they're on the side of "you stay over there and do your thing, we'll stay over here and do ours."
And that is good enough for me.

I do agree in the principle, and while they are not 'just like us' i do think we have many compatible views, thus 'friends'.

Sort of like the UK. Sure we dont agree on everything, but i do feel we are on the same team. And i dont have to agree with my friends 100% to still be friends, just the fundamental stuff.
And i do think the people in place like Israel, Australia, UK, etc are friends.
Now, their governments, not always.. But the people, yes.
Israel certainly seeks to cooperate economically and otherwise with the US.
Israeli citizens are divided on how we view the current administration, but there's certainly something to be said for the fact that where we build houses on privately owned land really isn't the business of the international community.
I like you guys. ( if you couldn't tell )

I'm indifferent. I don't really care what you do - and I wouldn't want to be in your place - and I certainly value your presence in that region of the world as the one bright spot surrounded by and holding back endless fields of goat-shit.
I don't completely trust your aspirations on the global stage. But I'd rather be aligned with you than against you, all things considered.

I think it was Von Mises who said that, at the core level, what made a cultural identity was its language.
Sure, UK and the Muricas may have their differences and fight over them, but since they share the same language they are usually sharing the same set of ideas. A lot of non-english speaking people is amazed by some ideas English speakers have, because they have never heard them in a language they understand.
It applies to a lot of fields. Some cool techniccians will never have their ideas recognized because they write down in languages nobody cares for. Meanwhile an engineer who writes some idea in a language with moderate adoption will have that idea thrown across all the communities that speak that language.
I found this particular line fairly amusing. :)

Mon Nov 15 2021 11:19:20 AM EST from IGnatius T FoobarWell, the problem with the UK is that they speak a broken and bastardized version of English. :)
