"'Deserve' got nothin' to do with it." Like it or not, we're eventually outta here and it'll be their world. I know some people out there are worth finding.

Just watch this. And show it to young people.

Two things:
That trailer is worth way more than the official one for the new movie (I suspect it is because the material they had to work with for the fan-trailer was much better)
Second, may I interest you in an Invidious instance so we don't direct traffic to Youtube? https://yt.artemislena.eu/watch?v=0WUnHnZ3KYQ
Absolutely Invidious instances are fine, though I'll continue using ytp-dl as long as they keep making it work. (Always nice when I find another site it works on.)
In that trailer, when Indy thunders out on the horse and everyone rises up on both sides of him with a roar, I have to stand up and roar myself.
yt-dlp is a bit better than the original.

Anybody knows anything about the Barbie movie? Specifically: how hard does it score in the woke-meter? A friend of mine asked me if I would watch it with him and since I don't like to have friends go alone to the cinema I told him I would go watch nearly anything that wasn't woke.
Being that its 2023, its Barbie, how can it not be? And what little i have seen for ads, it screams it.

Thanks for the information. I will inform my friend and suggest him to stay at home watching classics instead.

As previously mentioned ... the Mario Bros. movie managed to be completely watchable and non-woke. It was great.
But that isn't Barbie, a alpha female orientated character at its core.

I've been watching some vids abouts Barbie and ... it's actually a story about Ken.
It tries to show a feminist paradise, but it's actually a hellscape. Ken brings the patriarchy to Barbieland and then everyone is happy.
It tries to be a feminist masterpiece, but it actually shows how feminism is awful.
So a lesson in disguise ?

The Lotus Eaters Podcast did a lot of videos about it, all posted on the youtubes.

Over the weekend I finally had a chance to watch "The Meg" (2018). Figured we'd better see it since the sequel just came out. I saw some of it being watched by someone in an adjacent airplane seat a few years ago and told myself I wanted to see it. I don't watch a lot of movies anymore.
I liked it. Kind of cheezy but with lots of loud action sequences and no "hollywood values" ruining it.
Overall, it was pretty good. As in, I was entertained for most of it, which I guess is really all that matters. Some of the humor felt a little Pixar-derivative which, by now, is kind of tired, but otherwise there were a lot of jokes I laughed at so I'm really nit picking here.
And now I will put on my best Comic Book Guy impression.
Peach was a Mary Sue, and for all of the talk about it being notably unwoke, I feel like the entire premise of Peach teaching Mario the ropes in order to rescue Luigi struck me as likely woke input.
The choice of references were strange, though likely a result of the audience delimma I described earlier. Like I don't know wtf cat suit Mario is or what that does for him, but for some reason it was a major scene. At the same time, I didn't see some classic Mario staples like Boos or Thwamps, and I wanted to see more fire Mario. I don't think Mario ever got the fire power, come to think of it.
Along those same lines, the blue flame character in the dungeon got some of the hardest laughs from me, but I have no idea what that character is or what game he's supposed to be from. Was it supposed to be those little flames that follow you in Mario 3? I don't remember them being blue, but maybe they were.
The 80s music references were a bit much for me. That's when you kind of jump the shark trying to appeal to the nostalgia crowd. I guess it didn't diminish the film any, but it does make me groan every time.
Not enough Koopa Kids. Well, okay, that would have been way too many characters.
The integration of Donkey Kong and Mario Kart were cute. I liked both of those. I would have preferred Donkey Kong Country themes instead of the Smash Bros rap, though. And I don't know who was Cranky Kong's voice but it didn't seem right to me. Sounded way too young and not even remotely Cranky.
Anyway, nit-picks aside, it was fun. What a strange film.
Oh also I was pretty satisfied with the little musical references throughout. It opens up with the Mario 3 airship theme, I'm pretty sure I heard a castle theme in there at some point, obviously there were classic Mario 1-1 and 1-2 themes in there, and the buildup into the star theme got a good laugh from me.
Oh and maybe I just have a dirty mind but some of those shots of Peach's cartoon ass in the motorcycle suit seemed deliberate. Maybe that makes up for the perceived woke Mary Sue angle.
