They were not there due to me tho, so my presence didnt really change the meter in any significant amount.

So who won?

They did. You increased the value of Facebook to your family members by being there for them.

While interacting with you, they consumed the ads and the propaganda.

I block all their stuff crap. They dont get ad revenue from me. But i

do get to keep in touch with family.

So who won?

They did.

If you are there, there is no reason for your family to be elsewhere, so o you being there adds value to their platform and contributes to their (dwinling) market dominance even if they don't make a profit directly from you.

F- the EU

"The European Union’s (EU) regulatory agenda will largely hit U.S. technology companies and will impact Americans’ speech and lifestyle by stifling innovation, experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The EU laws consist of content moderation regulation, antitrust enforcement, and artificial intelligence (AI) model rules, all carrying massive financial penalties for violation. The laws apply to platforms that have large user bases in the EU, which are mainly American companies, with the EU recently launching a formal investigation into billionaire Elon Musk’s X and bipartisan lawmakers pushing President Joe Biden to ensure the regulation does not harm U.S. firms unfairly, according to Reuters."

Any opinions about 'start page' search engine?

Since Duck isn't 100% reliable now.

Grr.   Its long past time to start taking action against scumbags like this:

"The Center for Countering Digital Hate is a British non-profit organisation with offices in London and Washington, DC. It campaigns for big tech firms to stop providing services to individuals who may promote hate and misinformation, including neo-Nazis and anti-vaccine advocates, and campaigns to restrict media organisations such as The Daily Wire from advertising. CCDH is a member of the Stop Hate For Profit coalition."

The best search page is search.citadel.org

Startpage is fine, but it has drawbacks: it belongs to an advertisiing company and it uses Google's index.

If you are really interested, have a look at this article (LONG READ) https://digdeeper.club/articles/search.xhtml

The cries of pain echo through the vast emptyness of space as a million souls suffer the absence of search.citadel.org.

I will not say I was using it *much* (because I don't really do much web browsing) but I used it every now and then.

For the moment I am playing with aara and 4get.

I just learned Vincent Canfield, the operator of the cock.li free (as in free speech) mail service, received a beating at a CCC and had his phone stolen by the CCC crew, in a very antifa-fashion.

First they ruined literature cons, now they ruined computer cons. I am not sure I would accept a job position in the US these days.

Chaos Computer Club IIRC. So-called "anarchists" who like most of their ilk simply want to be The Man.

Chaos Computer Club.

I am not very familiar with them, other by some videos, presentations and materials some friends send me from time to time with interesting technological developments. It is a pity the org is turning to crap, because the tech material used to be very good.

This reminds me so much of the world of literature.

Ah, yes. i do remember that.  But not in the context of attacking people so never put the 2 together.  Agreed, that is too bad.

Also quite tired of the whole "diversity of thought" shibboleth. If someone thinks murder is cool, or that murder is cool as long as you're murdering the right people, I have no room in my life for them, and I don't believe a sane and civilized world should have any place for their "diverse thought".

Killing someone may or may not be appropriate, lawful, etc. Murder is always wrong.
