But if you have no belt, where does your sidearm go?

On the side of my arm, of course. :)

You know, you *can* wear a belt with suspenders. The belt can be worn at a comfortable size because it is relieved of the duty of holding up your pants.
There are suspender varieties that attach to belts, for just this reason.

But here in the People's Communist Socialist Republic of New York, there aren't a lot of places where one is allowed to carry anyway.

I don't wear layers, either... coming from the West... layers usually don't make sense. I mean... I did layer up in winters when I lived in Ohio. There is something different about the cold out there... I guess that it gets into the negative teens is probably it. :)

When it gets below 35 here for a week in Feb... I'm like, "this is unreasonably cold!"

I like the side holsters that put your firearm on the side of your chest under your arm.

Open carry, CC... it is all legal here.

Layers here is you put a hoodie on top your shirt :) Unless it gets down in the 10s, then you find a coat.

Never been a fan of shoulder holsters.  I tried one, but it takes longer to get to your firearm as you fish for it ( or at least it did for me ).   Plus not practical for summer use around here.  Sure open carry is 100% legal here too, but in this current climate its a hassle, even around here.   Seen a few stores here lately asking you not to open carry.  Means you are technically trespassing if you do. Even tho i dont open carry, I of course wont give them my business and turn around when i see the sign.

Same. Never tried one, but I don't like the idea of flagging my arm and half the room when I draw. But they do make you look like a badass, so they have that going for them.

You can conceal very heavy knives using sheathes and harnesses which very closely resemble shoulder holsters. Bonus points becase knives seem easier to fish for than a gun in that setup.

I learnt the trick from a book written by a Vietnam vet.

For medium knives, the best setup is belt carry (open or concealed) at your weak side. It allows you to pick the knife in reverse with the weak hand or to cross draw with the strong hand. This also leaves you room to place a gun in your belt on your strong side (which, by the way, was suggested by some WWII combatives manual I picked in a flea market).

Now, if only my gun was compact enough for concealed carry... :)

I have practiced 'cross draw' and not a fan of that either. but of course YMMV

1 - extra time to get to it ( ok, i do realize its not a lot of time, but its still time ) and more time to potentially be blocked access since its further away

2- you are waving ( potentially anyway, depends on situation of course ) your firearm at non-targets during the process .  And in a panic situation, accidents do happen even to the best of us.

Ok i also cant read apparently.   Knife on weak side, im ok with that.     ( even in my case, where i'm mostly ambidextrous.   tho i no longer write with my left hand, as out of the blue i started writing backwards back in highschool..  was too hard to fight that tendency so i stopped )

But my statement still is true, not a fan of firearm on weak side :)

Believe me, if some moron causes an accident involving horses and rope, you will be glad you can use your strong hand for grabbing a horse and your weak hand for picking up a knife and cutting ropes away.

Sounds like it's time for someone to come out with a stealth rifle that looks like an old farmer's musket with wood grain and everything, but actually has the accuracy of an AR-15 and conceals a 30-round magazine inside the stock.

I keep saying - by the time we realize we should have united and rose up - it'll be too late.

We're all too damn comfortable and we like our broadband and our iphones and our big screen TVs and Superbowl and The Masked Singer and all of our bread and circuses.

I mean, don't Red Flag me... I'm right there on board. I don't want to be a fucking revolutionary - as long as they keep me pacified with new gadgets like VR and fancy German sports cars... a 3 bedroom house in the suburbs with a pool and trips to Europe and Asia... I'm perfectly content to let them seize each other's yachts and release the occasional Superflu on the population, or jam the ballot boxes with mail in votes... whatever shit they're up to.

I'm just like the rest of you. Telling me I can't have my high capacity semi-automatic magazine isn't going to actually get me to pull a Boston Tea Party when it risks turning me into an insurgent living in the hills in a yurt or a prisoner sitting in a cell.

I think many are, but not enough are to make the attempt worth it. Its destined to fail unless nearly everyone is on board.  Its a different country we live in than before. Too many pansies, socialists and Marxists that support it.

Purging THEM would go along way towards fixing things.

But that is what I mean - by the time the pansies, socialists and Marxists realize they've been sold a bogus bill of goods - that it isn't what they were promised - and they WANT to rise up...

It'll be too late.

Otherwise, you're right.

And of course, we CAN'T purge them. 2016-2020 illustrated that - THEY can try to purge us - to beat old men wearing read MAGA hats with bicycle locks as they leave rallies, to burn cities and disrupt traffic and force police to stand down and flee - they can disrupt and terrorize the opposition into silence.

The minute the terrorized side stands up to this threat, then the GOVERNMENT forces come down - investigating the Proud Boys, naming organizations terrorist and racist organizations, the media that called riots which burned down cities "localized protests" suddenly wanting the head of a 16 year old for defending himself against 3 assailants.

The establishment - lets not even call it Left or Right - enables their useful idiots and defends them when the rational parts of society stand up to them.

If everyone who saw this stood up now, it would probably be at least 48% of the population, across the US. That kind of insurgency - I don't think it could be crushed. The PROBLEM people described above that need to be purged are about 15-20% of the population - they're just very mobilized and very vocal.

It is the people in the middle who are UPSET by this - but not enough to risk personal suffering or loss - that are the problem. The people who WILL stand up to them are likewise a small, vocal and mobilized minority of the total.

It is the comfortable people in the middle who are risk adverse who are the ACTUAL problem allowing things to get progressively worse. I say that fully aware that WE are *those* people.

Oh, im under no disillusion that we can actually purge them at this point, just that it would be the right thing to do, if we could.

At this point it may be just better to drop off the radar and wait.  i only wish i was well funded enough to get back out to the middle of nowhere. Let civilization collapse and by the time they come for me, id be long dead and gone.

i also have an age thing creeping up on me. Today, i can still go out to the boonies and do all i need to be fine.  in 20 years, i doubt it, and I know i will have practical limitations. Its actually quite scary when you start thinking about having a finite effective lifespan.  Not being able to do what you could for decades. I'm just now at that point of looking over my shoulder..   I think injuring my arm ( and hand ) has made it a bit more scary, as i now know what its like to lose a % of your abilities. In a split-second, life changing. Watching my mother deteriorate the last few years only reinforces the concern.

If it totally all fell apart this weekend, we do have some alternatives away from town. But id rather bug out like that via planning and not imposing on family, not 'we gotta get out of town, now'
