Usually it is incomplete showing just myself and "(not logged in)" I hit w twice within a second and this was
the result. I am using citadel-client 8.20-1 with Ubuntu 12.4

If I ssh into citadel it is fine, the client gives me the odd list. I had an older version of the client and
that worked fine.

I like the editor option on the client so I use that instead of ssh.

Try:

ssh bbs@uncensored.citadel.org

You will then have to use your username/login to get into the BBS proper.

Mo, my old client the wholist worked, I think it was 7.8xx in version 8.20 it just lists one or two
users/nothingness.

There is a particular version of the client that has a bug in it which doesn't show the entire list. Unfortunately that version is in quite a few Debian and Ubuntu repositories.
