"Return to Oz" came out in 1985. I never saw it, so I can't legitimately comment on it.

(But, here's the trailer for it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qSkoAvDWVU ... and apparently, it was super-nightmarish ).

There was a "black" Wizard of Oz with Diana Ross, made in 1978 at the end of Hollywood's Blaxploitation era.

Heh... The Wiz...

Imagine if Andrew Lloyd Webber created a version of The Wizard of Oz, from music liberally 'borrowed' from Hair or something.

This brings us to the next point:

Now name some films in this same "everyone knows them, everyone quotes them" category, made in the last 15 years.

I don't think there are any.

Heh... The Wiz...

What is not to love about The Wiz?  Nipsey Russle's famous rhymes, the rap version of Over The Rainbow, and Micheal Jackson trying to cuddle all the Oompa Loompas.

I've never seen The Wiz. I just think of it as an awesome idea.

Not having seen it, I kind of imagine Judy Garland wandering around in a juke joint, trying to find Kansas, while Minnie the Moocher (or, at least, Cab Calloway) torments her.

Let's see:  We've got Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Youtube, Sling TV, Philo and . . . Wal-mart?  Is there anything that makes it special? (Undercutting K-mart and Target may not be a good enough strategy in this new market.)

"Not special" might be a good thing. Wouldn't it be great to have lots of choices instead of a few titans?

Ah I see, she's the latest "woke superhero". Or superheroine. Or superheterodyne.
Or whatever.

I think I'd rather watch Gil Galad, or Gil Gerard, or Jill Garrett, or whoever it was that played in the reboot of Wonder Woman.
