If enough people want the windows classic shell, somebody will write
it, same as they did for all the pseudo-start-menus for 8 and 8.1. Some
of those were actually good.
Why did anyone need to make classic shells for Windows? The average Windows user doesn't even know what version they're running, and people who know what they're doing with computers don't need the program because they're not even using Windows.
maintaining the windows port of ArangoDB which I do via rdesktop on a server 8 something whatever, I installed a startmenu since I was fed up with the bullshit.
However, I prefer to use ssh to work with the wintendo. Even better, automated shit, so jenkins will do it for me.

The "classic" shells I have seen for Windows don't get nearly classic enough for my tastes. My favorite Windows UI was still the simple, spatial Explorer layout of NT4 and Windows 95. It was still usable up through Windows 2000 but who decided that we needed to take all the toolbars and sidebars and UI trash that used to clutter browsers and move them into the once-minimalistic and efficient file explorer windows?

The user interface of Windows was at its best when it was pretty much a direct clone of RISC OS. (You didn't think Microsoft actually created something that good themselves, did you?)
Ever since then, every release of Windows has been designed to railroad its users into using other Microsoft products and services ... Internet Explorer, Bing, Office 365, Bing, Microsoft Cloud, and have I mentioned Bing?
Microsoft's desire to use the operating system as a vehicle to drive people into their other offerings is in direct conflict with the fact that people really want the operating system to just launch programs and get out of the way.
I hear that Windows 10 can be turned into a Chrome OS workalike pretty easily.
Chrome browser running on a machine with Windows 8, 8.1, or 10, when hardware video acceleration is available, can be run in "Windows 8 mode" where it turns itself into a Metro application that looks exactly like Chrome OS, when you set it as your default browser. Combine that with the fact that Windows can be set to lock a user into running only one Metro application at startup, and you get a sort of Chrome OS equivalent.
yeah, that is kinda like what Google and Facebook are doing now. Making you use their products and their products only.

Bernie Sanders is suspicious that Microsoft's involvement in computerized tallying of votes in the Iowa caucuses is programmed to bias the results to make Hitlery Cunton the winner.
Considering that Microsoft is the world's most evil company, founded by the worst person in all of recorded history, I can't dismiss this, even coming from a communist kook like San-duh-rs.
The thing is, if Microsoft is rigging the Iowa caucuses to make Hitlery Cunton win, that means they've probably programmed Microsoft Election Rigger 2016 to screw Sanders (who I don't care about) *and* Trump (who I do care about).

I paid for Swiftkey, I don't see that option anymore, so I am a little pissed. I also paid for the Opera browser when it was shareware but I digress. I have paid for a lot of shareware over the years, but I digress again. I paid for Swiftkey because the default Samsung keyboard sucked, the predictive text was "we are going to change the word to what we think you might mean."
I really don't want to uninstall a paid app but if it has an upgrade soon and says "Mictrosoft" I will have to uninstall it and install Google's keyboard.
I think that we should pay homage to the recent fall of Germany at the hands of jihadists by making a change to computer terminology.

Miguel de Icaza and Nat Friedman, enemies of open source who were paid Microsoft moles in the Linux community for many years, are now officially Microsoft employees. Microsoft has acquired their company, Xamarin.
For those who do not remember all the details:
- Miguel single-handedly prevented the unification of Linux on a single desktop (KDE) by introducing GNOME, creating a schism that disrupted (and possibly prevented) Linux's chance of success on the desktop.
- Miguel then created Mono, introducing the C# and .NET cancers into Linux.
- Nat was the loudmouth behind the (thankfully failed) "Hula" project, introduced with much hype after they rejected my suggestion to adopt Citadel as the official server to go with their client software.
Xamarin now makes a .NET runtime for both Android and iOS, which represents their collective effort to infect both of those platforms with Microsoft cancer.

Windows 10 setup. AMD graphics card connected to my 16x10 primary monitor.
Intel HD 4600 connected to a Sony AV receiver and thence to a TV via HDMI.
This all used to work fine, but something started happening yesterday after I changed settings in Display Settings to change from "show only on [monitor] 2" to "Extend these displays" mode, or vice versa. Now, when the TV is turned off, Windows decides to stop outputting a signal to the desktop monitor - it's like christmas tree lights in series - one goes out they all go out!
This can be worked around by changing to "show only on 1" but then I'd have to change the setting every time I want to listen to audio on the stereo. Infuriating. Must be some kind of registry corruption, argh.
