Which mole are we talking about? Miguel de Icaza? Nat Friedman?

Ah, it's Stephen Elop.

He's probably being sent off to secretly control some other company. He did such a great job as a mole within Nokia.

There are *so* many reasons to move away from WinXP.

I suppose by now some of you have heard about this?

http://tinyurl.com/qzek3db ]

Microsoft has decided, in its typical "me-too" way, that since Google and Facebook have gotten into software-defined networking, they have to do the same.  A few days ago they introduced "Azure Networking," an SDN controller of their own.

What is unusual, however, is that Azure Networking runs on Linux.

The trade press is of course falling all over itself shouting "Microsoft Linux!  Microsoft is building a Linux!"   I'm a bit more skeptical, wondering whose code they ripped off to build this thing and couldn't figure out how to port it to Windows.  Or perhaps Linux is so absolutely dominant in SDN that in order to have access to various vendor (switch) API's they had to be on Linux.  Because really, nobody in their right mind would run a network controller on Windows.

If there is one are where you can for shure tell that microsoft lost the battle, then its embedded.

Their wince failed on the phone, and I hope the SPS-Guis which siemens did with it are dead by now too. (but you never know - they also still sell train tachos running on DOS...)

I knew a single DSL-router running wince 10 years ago, but I heavn't heard of that meanwhile.

Yes, if you want to efficiently run a cloud with harmonized network management, then you probably only have the choice not to get it (means: run the vendors OS which probably will also be linux as long as you don't by cisco) or use linux.

Cisco has been on the Linux bandwagon for some time now. All of their Nexus switches run "NX-OS" which runs MontaVista Linux on its admin plane. This was in turn derived from their "SAN-OS" which ran on the MDS fibre channel switches, which also was Linux based. They do their best to make the user interface IOS-like, but there's definitely a Linux under the covers and you can get to a shell fairly easily.

I guess the Nexus series switch doesn't have this problem?

Seriously, **** cable boots.  They make it impossible to remove a cable without clamping a set of needle nose pliers around the whole thing.

There shouldn't be RJ45 connectors anyway.  An ethernet port ought to be eight screw terminals and we strip and tie the cable ends like real electricians!

Nah, we should use either proper punch down blocks or wire wrap pins.

Still not liking the flat, 2d look of Windoze 10, but they are forcing this stuff down our throats. Sigh.

Apparently, you can get third-part applications that restore the Windows 7 look-and-feel.

Yes, but that kind of thing is always dicey. I remember hacking Windows 98 to get rid of the browser integration for people who didn't want Active Desktop.
You'd think Micro$oft would stop doing this kind of crap. Now that self-righteous bitch Cortana is going to be in your face all the time even more than Clippy.
