And statisticians. See: HOW TO LIE WITH STATISTICS.

In any case, it would be horribly selfish of me to demand that I be vaccinated before all the seniors and black American citizens.

Perhaps one of the worst effects of the China virus is that it turned

everyone into armchair epidemiologists.

In just about exactly the same way as the subprime crisis turned everyone into armchair central bankers, which is what gave us the abovementioned fella Karl Denninger :)

That is correct. The p-value isn't everything. In actual practice, advisory panels sit around and argue about sources of biasness...

Karl and friends aren't getting traction with citing a small number of early studies, no matter how statistically significant, to argue for an EUA or whatever... because that isn't how science is done, really, at least not at this country's FDA.

It's interesting what's happening with this drug in Latin America. A couple countries have opened up access to it but it's flying off the shelves in panic buying. Those countries were clear and explicit: "this is not proven effective. You can use it anyway."

Now in those countries it's becoming difficult to study in a proper trial because nobody can be recruited because they already bought it at the pharmacy. I guess we'll see about effectiveness soon enough. Singapore is running a 5000-person clinical trial.

A prophylactic that flies off the shelf in panic buying is no longer a prophylactic, and is no longer available for its on-label use either. It is kinda reminiscent of HCQ.

And the pharmacokinetics of this drug don't make sense. The IC50 in vitro was 100x the heretofore accepted dose and looks like 10x a maximum plausible safe dose. One trial at the normal dose found a lack of effectiveness. So. Needs to be studied.

Call me an armchair epidemiologist if you want. I'm basically regurgitating the red flags that FDA itself (among others) have raised.

I'm just over here being a  podunk deplorable, wearing my tin foil hat and not trusting big pharma or the American Left on any position they take.

It is mostly based on anecdotal experience with the Left. Almost every other time they told me I was just being paranoid... it turns out, I wasn't. Exactly what I thought they had in mind long term was exactly what they HAD in mind long term.

So... I'm just goan sit here by the far and be oneadem ignant 'merican hillbillies and not really trust the narrative coming from the political elite.

Take at least 5,000 IU of vitamin D a day, along with at least a gram

of vitamin C, and some zinc with quercitin.

Along with hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin shows great promise for
early treatment.

You know, I have been recently notified that my organism is so fearsome in might, that it got the virus and obliterated it without bothering to tell me I had it.

I blame this on the fact I was taking D Vitamin and Zinc Gluconate well before the vit D and zinc craze got started.

The word for today is ivermectin. Prescription for humans, you can

get an apple-flavored paste for your horse. Two dozen medical studies

including ten random controlled trials. We've known since summer it

interrupts Covid progression; known since early fall that it stops

transmission. p value for post-exposure prophylaxis of <0.0001, gold

standard level evidence. 90% effective through all stages of the
disease, prevents 50 to 70% of deaths in the critically ill. Used for

decades, dispensed by non-medically trained persons in many parts of

the world. Safer than aspirin. You take two pills - not two a day,

two total - and it costs two bucks.

My horses hate the flavoured invermectine pastes.

Now I am worried that we will do what we always do and abuse invermectine until it generates resistences are it is no longer useful. Invermectine and Prazycuentel are the last two dewormers that reliabily work.

Also, take care with invermectine since it is toxic as heck, so don't overdose on it.

Yes but it sucks. My horses prefer the real apple.

Isn't that how all antibiotics work?  By creating a level of toxicity that kills the pathogen while only mildly impacting the patient?

Did I mention I broke my metatarsal and had surgery last month?

I had a childhood allergy to amoxicillin, and I'm told that means I should avoid the entire penicillin family. And I made the surgical team aware of that fact. They gave me IV clindamycin as a prophylactic in the OR. And prescribed more clindamycin after the 1-week post-op checkup because I was looking infected.

I got through about day 5-6 on clindamycin before I broke out in hives.
They switched me to azithromycin - yes, the infamous "Z pac"

Hard to tell what's what, but it seemed like I was allergic to that too.

At this point, in my 42 year lifespan, the only antibiotic I've had (that I know of; don't have detailed history on everything) that I WASN'T allergic to was, I think, doxycycline.

ivermectin can be neurotoxic...

I might be intolerant of Z-pack. The only time I took it I vomited it up a few minutes later. Not sure if I was just having a bad day or if it doesn't work for me. I was ready to try it again if I needed it as part of a cocktail.

Oh yeah, did I mention I was taking my antibiotics as part of a self-administered cocktail... of the whiskey variety.

Maybe I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. Slight chance it explains these reaction?

Ok, this might be important. There's some data on previous infections buried in the Pfizer vaccine trial data.

Thread: https://twitter.com/saarwilf/status/1342147589609816064

If I get the arithmetic right, previous infection only 57% effective at preventing future infection.
I mean this is all pretty preliminary, and there are probably some caveats, buf it this is the only data you have, like you don't just ignore it. The author of this thread seems to do a good job of drawing only a narrow conclusion: "Nevertheless, we can now finally say with some certainty that getting Covid does not provide STRONG immunity, even for a few months"

...

Personally, I'm still sharing a house with a person who tested positive, despite the availability of free hotel rooms in NYC for people like me. Hmmm.....

(She's on day 10 of symptoms, and I tested negative on Tuesday and remain healthy. Nonetheless, I can safely draw a conclusion that this is the lousiest Christmas present EVAR.)

And

"Negative data about Covid is probably reliable..."

Outlook on life?

I don't think you see it. But it is *clearly* there, looking in from the outside. Just an observation, relatively impartial. Not attacking you - but as a relative outsider who just showed up here - I absolutely see this about your posts in this room.

I bet people who know you better do too, they just don't point it out, because they've got a relationship of some sort with you.

Or, you can step outside yourself, and take a hard look at your approach, and maybe improve it. It is hard to focus on if your points are actually factual when your bias stands as such a giant distraction to whatever point you're trying to make.
