My 15 year old has suddenly gotten into a state where he's sleepy a lot (came home from school today and went straight to bed) and has very little appetite (dropped 15 pounds in two weeks). We're getting blood work done but no results have come back yet. It's a bit of a mystery and it has us worried.
Actually sounds like teenager.. and mono. Hoping for the best for the Dread
Pirate.. Let us know IG.
there are 2 kinds of mono - Epstein-Barr and Paul Bunnel
Plus CMV
and don't forget Lyme Disease
and some wacky stuff... My niece contracted Q fever.
At this point he seems to have most of his appetite back at least. He's still sleepier than a normal teenager.
Blood test says he's Vitamin D deficient, so he's taking a supplement for that.
The test for Lyme disease was "inconclusive" and needs to be done again.
Some. They still can't figure out what's wrong with him. He's got most of
his appetite back but he's still not himself. Latest batch of tests says
that he has some inflammation in his digestive tract, so this week they're
going to see whether he has Crohn's disease (which involves a colonoscopy
... ugh).
Is this a good old fashion purge and camera colonoscopy or one of the new fangled ones where they pump you up
with a gas (maybe oxygen) and then take an X-ray?

Old style. They sedated him and put a camera in both ends (hopefully washing it in between).
And we have what is hopefully good news. He has a hiatal hernia. The sequence of symptoms from there go to acid reflux, to reduced appetite, to reduced energy from eating less.
Hopefully that's the whole picture.
Self-resolving ailments are great. I just noticed a couple of days ago that
I can open my mouth all the way again, as my TMJ lockup has self-resolved.
A little research reveals that they normally do if you don't mess with them.
It was annoying while it lasted though.

Walking in Wallmart, some jerk coughed and didn't cover his mouth, causing me to walk into the cloud of his funk on my intake (happened too quickly for me to react in time).
Today, I'm taking antibiotics for walking pneumonia.
Fevers (but the wimpy kind, not a proper, good dream-inducing fever), aches, chills, coughing, and a rasping breath conspire to make life a tad less fun.
I am.
I have a lingering cough, but I am otherwise feeling much, much better.
Managed to go to work today!
