Baby was born Tuesday night at ~10:30pm, Israel time.

She was named on Thursday morning. Her name is Moriya Rosa, Moriya is a name for the mountain on which the Temple stood in Jerusalem (Where currently the Muslims have the Dome of the Rock.) Rosa is after my husband's grandmother, Rose.

She was born at 3.33 kg. (7lbs, 5oz)

She had surgery to drain a blocked kidney on Thursday afternoon, and the surgery seems to have gone very well.

She came home this morning (Sunday), and is currently sleeping :)

The other kids are mostly just thrilled that mommy's home after I spent Sunday-Tuesday having the world's slowest induction.

At some point, I may write about the birth itself. Those of you who are on facebook may have seen us (my mother and me) live blogging up until about 2 hours before the birth, followed by a photo shortly after the birth. :)

Hmm.

Someone has performed a study that shows DNA from your food makes it into your bloodstream. Some folks are citing this as a reason to avoid GMO foods.

But nobody has identified how this DNA makes it into our blood-stream, and it's iffy that this has any serious consequences (as in, consider if you ate a spider... you wouldn't expect to gain spider powers as a consequence).

Everyone knows it has to be a *radioactive* spider for that to happen.

What *is* the decay rate of your typical carbon atom?

[#] Fri Aug 08 2014 11:35:21 EDT from IGnatius T Foobar

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

Carbon-12 is considered highly unstable; virtually all of it currently present on the planet is expected to cease to exist at the end of the universe. The International Association of Non Scientists has issued a recommendation that you pay them a lot of money to study the problem more.

What's the typical time required for a poison ivy rash to begin taking effect?  I thought it was supposed to be 24 hours.

I know there's some poison ivy around my house, but I had treated all that I saw and it all died.  I did a bunch of yard work on Saturday, and I was fine on Sunday, but this morning I woke up with itchy spots all over.  Nothing big, all very small spots but extremely itchy.  It's also on my legs and feet, which were covered up the whole time.  What the heck is this?

Hmmmmmm.... Italians are not supposed to be susceptible to poison ivy... or poison oak.

A day later and I'm not thinking it's poison ivy. There aren't any blisters or big rashes, just pinpoint spots all over that itch a lot. Weird.
