Didn't realize they could truly black list servers. i thought it was just a 'down vote' so to speak, so no one saw you in any official index, but you still existed. But, i guess that does not surprise me.

So 'federated', but only to a point.

Precisely. I've been in and out of it for several years. The federation was mostly holding together until people started bailing on twitter and spinning up new instances by the hundreds. They are simply migrating the bullshit, censorship, and divisiveness from twitter to mastodon. In a way, the design expected this sort of thing to happen, with the intent that people of a certain flavour would congregate on particular instances, and the code provides the ability to block instance A from federating with instance B. What I'm seeing more and more, though, is instance A doesn't like instance B, tells instances C-ZZZ and they all defederate B. Have a look at the hashtag #Fediblock to see what I'm talking about.
So my suspicion is that we'll end up with islands, some big and some small, that end up being echo chambers, just like twitter. Nobody can stand to see an opinion other than their own, there is no reasonable discourse or agree to disagree, just block block block.
The only sane thing to do is to not take the whole thing at all seriously.

I don't give a shit about Twitter (or whatever Mastadon is), and neither should you, but here's the problem: regardless of what you and I think, they do have audiences. So these platforms are political weapons because they provide direct communication from public figures to zombie hordes. They are basically the politics version of a bot net.

So given that, I think that ending up with islands is probably the best possible outcome. I have no desire to follow or participate in a massive world-wide chat room, anyway. I prefer to interact with small, tightly-nit communities where people get to know and dislike me for my personal qualities rather than for what team I align with.

Right, i dont personally care about most of them as a platform, however i do care about the effects they have on society, which like it or not, we have to deal with the fallout.

Bla bla bla 'apple is going to ban our app" bla bla whine whine whine

"gonna make my own phone!" whine whine whine bla bla bla

So you make a responsive web page and dont need an app.. runs
anywhere on anything..   Its 2022. its not that hard..  Native
apps are a form of lock-in unto themselves.

I agreee, with some minor details to point out.

The first one is that lots of Twitter users don't know how to create a bookmark for their mobile browser, and won't bother checking Twitter if they can't do it with a swipe or similar easy gesture. Apps are great for getting these morons in because they give them just a big logo to tap. You have to be way more moronic than the average mobile user not to be able to use it - besides, people is used to everything being an app.

The second is that Apple would be positioning itself. The removal of the app is not as much a move to block Twitter but a way to take a political stance. Apple should now be regarded as The Enemy because it has identified as such.

I've noticed that most of the people who believe that "no censorship"

and "nazi" are synonyms, are threatening to "move to Mastodon." Do

I've been saying the same thing. These people have no fucking clue.

They want moderation? Mastodon is decentralized. They're not going to find the moderation they're looking for.

There's nothing new under the sun, either. The whole idea is basically FIDONET dressed up in fancy clothing. No offense to IGnet.

Basically the problem is that "I'm on Mastodon" doesn't have a well-defined meaning because you immediately have to get into this endless discussion about "which instance." There is no one Mastodon, so Mastodon is meaningless.

I dont remember which site, or if it really worked, but on launch it offered to create a 'web shortcut' in your launcher for you.  Would be pretty brain dead to do that for the user.

It sounds to me like a browser dependant functionality. Maybe I am wrong. If you can have a website create a bookmark automatically it could do the trick.

Specifically we're talking about the ActivityPub protocol (which is a draft W3C standard), not the Mastodon software itself. The comparison to FidoNet is apt, and that's what I'm hoping for. I simply want Citadel (and Uncensored) to play in a wider world.

A little wandering around the web confirms what Kitty said: the core Mastodon developers are censor-happy commies who seem to want decentralized servers but centralized censorship. Doesn't that completely miss the point?

I expect we'll see ActivityPub go the same way as FidoNet and IRC did during their peaks: multiple networks with different cultures (such as Fido "othernet" zones). However, unlike FidoNet there is no central node numbering authority, so it's even easier to be part of "more than one network".

In the future when Citadel supports ActivityPub there's obviously no way I will subscribe to any fediblock lists.
I expect Uncensored will quickly end up *on* that list, since the name itself is provocative and when the Mastodon devs take one look at it they will see that we are "nazis". We'll supply some of the energy to help break the fediverse free of their censorship.

Speaking of free speech, here are three more things you're not allowed to speak freely about:

(1) organized pantries; (2) underseasoned food; and (3) coffee.

Because those things are now racist. [ https://tinyurl.com/3ftaz7mu ]

I don't care what some libtard site says, I'm still going to say there was an 8 year period between Bush and Trump when we didn't have a Purresident, just some random guy named Saddam Barack Hussein bin-Obama.  I like clean coffee.  Organized spice rack just makes things easier to find.  Peanut butter goes great with everything.

The more you post the more I feel like you're one of my buddies from back home. I call him "Ba'raq Saddam Hussein Osama Obama."

My spice rack is organized, but not alphabetically. It has three tiers, which are different heights and so the same size bottles go on each one so they all fit nicely. The bottom tier also has a small bluetooth speaker which we use for dinner music, because we are both classy and nerdy at the same time.

Less frequently used herbs and spices go in the cupboard, where we have to dig for them and inevitably buy extras of ones we already have.

We should talk about the "stay away from people who hate you" trope since it's a big deal these days.
