So how do you feel if there was no tip, but they raised the rates of the service
to pay the [staff? There are days I'd prefer that. Expecting the staff to
rely on tips makes my skin crawl.
Cafe China, in the garment district, tried the no-tipping model but they had to backtrack. It didn't work, I guess the servers didn't like it.
Another problem I had was this one restaurant (now defunct) that I used to frequent, that occasionally added a tip to the bill even for a party of 2. This happened a handful of times, so if I hadn't been paying attention I would have double-tipped.
It's built into so many of us to tip people as we know that they rely on them.
I'd much rather be able to tip for extraordinary service and know that they
were earning enough not to rely on tips to survive.

There are cultures where that is just what happens. The staff gets paid their rate and no tips are expected. If somebody gets a tip it is because he did something outstanding to earn it.
There are some businesses where tips are not even accepted because they consider them offensive for some reason. The employees, I mean.
I've been working straight since around 8:30 this morning. I need lunch! Can
someone please deliver?
Thanks,
Thanks,
You need to work closer to where you eat. I'll bet your office isn't even
on the same floor as your kitchen.
I made fried rice for lunch today. Using leftover rice (as we discussed in this room a few months ago) really is the key to make it work. I need to cook more rice and not eat it immediately.
My wife and my daughter are both pants (pantses?) when it comes to plain rice. When I serve rice with chicken, they bitch and moan if it's not Rice-A-Roni ... which is mostly pasta.

Yup. Like avocadoes for example. My daughgter thinks they're disgusting
and my wife is allergic to latex (but also thinks they're disgusting). They're
now a staple in my house even though only two of us are eating them.
This weekend, I spent an insane amount of money on a 5lb ribeye roast and made a wonderful garlic butter prime rib.
This was my first attempt at it, and it was thoroughly enjoyed.
Hi Freak. Sounds great. How many people were you cooking? Were there leftovers?
How did you deal with them? I've got a lot of freezer space. I've been considering
crazy things like ordering online a 1/4 cow butchered, wrapped and frozen.
The amount of variety with that can be fun. I also got my first Wild Alaska
salmon / pollock delivery the other day. The salmon is delicious. Going to
try the pollock out next.

None. He said he was cooking a standing rib roast.

People aren't kosher, so I had to stick with beef. ;-)
Humans don't have cloven hooves. Nor do we chew our cud. I think that pretty
much counts out cannibalism.
Two Asian inspired egg ideas.
This first one sounds like it wouldn't work but it does.
Add freshly chopped cabbage to the raw eggs before scrambling the eggs, or add cabbage to an omelet. The cabbage will add some crunch and texture to the egg.
Hard boil eggs, shell them and then put the whole egg in some soy sauce, chopped green onions, garlic, fresh ginger and whatever other spices you like. Let it marinate (pickle) for at least 12 hours.
I used hot pepper flakes, white pepper, coriander, and paprika.

Actually, that one does not sound that weird. Eggs lean themselves to be used in bizarre ways.
I used to frequent a bar where they served chilly pepper omelet. The funny thing is they always added more peppers to the ones I ordered, to the point my rations were scrambled peppers more than actual omelettes. I loved them. Too bad the bar closed.
