ugh... clarification:

You can still get their ice cream in the GROCERY store but the FRIENDLY'S stores have closed.

The Friendly's "restaurants" deserve to close. I left NJ in 2001, and even before that it was over five years before that when I was last dragged into a Friendly's.

Terrible service - terrible food - no atmosphere.

The ice cream stuff was good, though.

IG - Is the one in Mahopac remaining open?

We drove past it yesterday and it appeared open, but it appears to be listed as permanently closed.

They close one Friendly's years ago here and it became a local Restaurant. One Friendly's near my sister's
house and one local Friendly's were torn down and became Moe's Somewhat grills.

We are currently fantasizing about the possibilities for our local Friendlyses being redeployed as other types of restaurants. Yummers.

Five Guys, Perkins, Chick-Fil-A, Sonic, or a local diner that doesn't make my wife sick every time we go there.

Chick-Fil-A is fairly established here on the Left Coast. Been to those a few times and always liked the food.

Sonic is out here, but I've not tried it.

Never heard of Five Guys. Is that the old Two Guys department store with three more partners?

Why go to Perkins when there's IHOP?!?!

We've already got an IHOP nearby; Perkins is well established as a family favorite here but there aren't any nearby. Chick-Fil-A has the absolute hyperyummiest chicken sandwiches anywhere, bar none, but we have to go to Pennsylvania or New Jersey to find one. They're building two in Danbury, CT which is good...

Sonic isn't anywhere in southern NY; that requires a trip to NJ.

"Five Guys Burgers and Fries" is fairly new. It's one of those burger places that's a couple of notches higher in quality than what the Big Three sell; they serve big burgers with customizable toppings, and fresh-cut fries. They seem to have expanded fast here in the northeast.

Next time you get to a Chick-Fil-A try the chicken strips and get a cole-slaw side. Absolutely wonderful - and you're not getting the excessive carbs from the sandwich bun!!

That's what I like to get at KFC, but KFC is to Chick-Fil-A (to paraphrase Blackadder) as excrement is to cream.

Danbury?  Jeez, at that point, you might as well tack on the extra 40min and go to Rein's Deli in Vernon.....

Ever since my friend's brother discovered an earthworm between the fried batter and the chicken I have stayed
away from Kentucky Friend Chicken. That was 1980ish. Yes that is right I called it "Kentucky Friend Chicken"
not KFC, and Pluto is still a planet damnit.

Let us just say that you probably don't want to eat the gravy.

That happened in India?

What I'd really like to do is take fresh boneless chicken pieces and cut them into the shape of small rodents, then batter and fry them just to freak out dinner guests.

Yum
