Of course they have. Everyone learned from AT&T being broken up. If it can happen to them, it can to you too, so put protections in place early.
May have been the plan all along.
Not wanting it, just wanting to destroy it from the outside.

Sometimes that's all you need.
The lady in the photo does have some pretty nice cans though.
Youtube has ads?
( ok, a bit of sarcasm, i have ad-block. i have had so long that i even forget there are ads. )
Could you use chrome instead of the app? When i use my tablet, my plugins come down automatically for my browser. Including the ad blocker.
Same for FB, my ad blocker/post hider thingie comes along for the ride, and works the same. I dont use the app.
Sat May 28 2022 08:06:20 AM EDT from zelgomerI use adblock on the pc too but probably 95% of my youtube viewing is on the tv or on my phone. Do you know how to block the ads there?

I think Musk saw the writing on the wall that Authorities will try to place roadblocks in Twitter's way if Musk buys it, and now Musk is trying to adjust the price to this reality - or just find a way to walk out of the operation saving face.

Aaaannd now youtube is serving me ads about meeting Ukranian women. Not
sure whether it's supposed to be a dating service or mail order bride,
but it does have me a little spooked about the whole spying thing
because this is the onky place where I joked about that.

Most likely, their algo determined you belong to the age bracket and income bracket more apropiate for getting such an ad.

I don't know what Youtube looks like because I never visit it. Fuck platforms owned by the Enemy.

For the TV, install a LAN wide adblocker. Linux Magazine even had an issue focusing on this:
For Android, just install Netguard from F-DROID. Applications from Google Play are forbidden from including ad-block functions, but F-DROID's version of Netguard can ge configured to block advertisements. It works well.

True, the real solution is that I should get off of Youtube. But thanks for the tips, especially netguard. I will check that out.
I also thought of that here at home ( wife uses the app ), but what happens to the video when it tries to hit an ad, does it pause or something? The ad blocker i have inside chrome does not do that and the video never stops.
Spinning up a VM to do it here would be pretty simple.

So i was bored, and did it.
Looks like its not blocking any YT ads due to the way they are streaming the ads ( if it did, the video woudl be toast too )

Thanks for trying so that I don't have to!
I did find an app however that strips ads. I cant sell how well it works, or how safe it is, not tried it yet. It appears to be free.. but never know.

Never mind, looks like they dropped support a couple of months ago. So while it may work now, as as soon as google changes things it will break and that will be that.
had a spare raspberry pi, installed pi-hole. it works pretty good. (yt not blocked but ad-blocker ultimate plug in does). pi-hole spikes the nettlesome ads buried in various games and utilities on phones and tablets. hackers should hit these guys with wanna-cry ransom.
I had a similar experience - I tried pi-hole hoping it would block YouTube ads when we watch videos on Roku or Chromecast. It wasn't all that effective. On the other hand, a conventional ad blocker on a browser is 100% effective, so perhaps some sort of proxyt blocker could be built instead.
On my mobile, I've been using Vanced for a long time and am really disappointed to hear that it's being discontinued.
