Also - nah, I understand your outrage.

I just think Intel DGAF. Cost of doing business to them, and their lawyers and bean counters have already figured out... "You lose less money crippling the chip and settling than you do letting it run and losing profits on your enterprise license sales."

They've got it down to a science. You just have outrage.

I may have mentioned this before..

I worked for a large company that went IPO.  they did a lot of funny business just before to boost our image. ( like taking on large expensive contracts, that ultimately we would lose money on ).

We were given the opportunity to buy stock at 1/2 price just before the public got it.  As the company had been around for 30 years and at the time the largest private firm that did that work, we all dug out our penny banks and bought some. ( at the time i didnt have much cash floating around, so i scraped up 1 or 2 grand, i dont remember now to be honest. it wasn't a *lot* but it wasn't insignificant either at the time ).

Few months later the company started to implode, and i got out. Saw what was coming as i had seen it before, but many of my friends did not and stayed. Honestly had forgot about the stock, or id have dumped it at a loss.

About year later they hired local locksmiths to lock the doors across the planet one night, canceled credit cards of sales guys on the road. etc.  No warning. Even local shop managers were standing outside offices wondering what the F- was going on. Out of business totally.  Sales friend of mine was trying to pay for dinner with a client " sorry sir your card was declined ". They didnt even bother to tell them they had no job and he was out on the road that week.

Fast forward about 10 years later and  i get a letter in the mail.  " bla bla attorneys, class action, bla bla board is now in prison for fraud, bla bla full refund on your stock "  Great i thought. i could use the cash and kept reading   " you must provide your *original* documentation of purchase as the company that handled the sale was gone too, and you have about a week to do it. All unclaimed proceeds will go to bla bla attorneys"  wtf..

It was 10 years, who keeps that crap after a company folds that long ago?  No one i know did. So we got screwed, twice.

Like with ford and the exploding pinto:

"We could go with safe fuel cells like the engineers said to do when the car was designed, and they would be safe. But that will cost us Y dollars per car.

If we ignore the smart guys and go with cheap hollow tanks, we save X dollars per car, but they might explode in rare occasions.  *calculator sounds in the background* But, the potential suit payouts is still a net gain, lets do it"

So that might be the end of the line for Intel as "the" general purpose silicon provider for the world. They may be too big to fail but they're already at a point where they don't really "control" the market anymore.

The genie can't be put back into the bottle. There are too many different parties producing chip designs and fabs and operating systems and networks and all of the pieces needed for the fabric of standard computing. I stopped buying Intel some time ago, and if AMD decides to get stupid then there's already ARM and RISC-V and all sorts of other options.

And if I want to play video games I'll haul out the Nintendo. Never quite saw the point of PC gaming.

Too bad none of these are real. I could use a beautiful Ukrainian wife. She could entertain my horses while I do the barn work, for example, since if they are not entertained they start an emotional blackmail game for pats while I am working.

I knew a guy who had an actual mail-order bride. They have all sorts of things that call it a "dating service" and somesuch, but the workflow and fee structure of the process make it pretty obvious that it's an arranged marriage service.

From a western perspective we immediately think "human trafficking" but in parts of the world where arranged marriages are socially acceptable, they often think of it differently.

Child rape is considered socially acceptable in some parts of the world too. So is beheading you due to your religion or orientation.  But none of us in civilized societies would agree with it and feel its wrong.

A cousin of mine had a Russian bride ( of sorts ) i think they met one time he was there for duty but im not 100% sure on that, ( cant exactly what he did in public, but he was in the services and he did travel a bit ) But regardless they did actually care for each other. But, due to someone else in her family US government never let her get a green card to come. And due to his previous "job", he wasn't allowed back there either at one point.  They got married there and for several decades they tried to get her here. Until one day he died out mowing the back yard. She wasn't even allowed to come to the funeral.

Family sold off everything he had, other than things she asked for and shipped it all home to her along with the cash.

Sad really.

Talked to her a few times on the phone myself, seemed like a nice person. I told him more than once just fly her to Mexico or Canada or something drive down and get her.  With all the illegals around no even would even blink. just do it. Be together. A fake ID is 100 bucks to make it 'look' legit .. But due to his background 'we have to do it by the book'.

Two of my high school friends (one of them sort of a best friend) had Russian brides.

I'm pretty sure neither of these relationships worked long-term, but he got a son out of it (whom he doesn't see much, I think)...

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

F-Amazon and Bezos.   If there isn't a huge push back and they reverse their decision, i can see this only being the beginning, as its success will determine future plans.  If it does not go south. in 10 years, unless you are willing to re-brand your products to say "Amazon", you dont get to sell on their platform.

Sure, its their right, but f-them.

It should have become obvious a long time ago that Amazon has become too big and powerful and should be broken up.  (A nuclear bomb dropped on Seattle would do the trick nicely, as it would also take out Microsoft and Starbucks.)

Getting close to time to shut off all my accounts everywhere. I dont think i want to participate in the destruction of society. ( or witness )

Perhaps Putin will solve the problem. If he has the guts.

Putin does not want to fix your country. He is having a lot of fun watching the US and Europe self destruct as he builds stable relationships with Asian powers (and super-powers).

My family has already started their withdrawal from the big technological motherfuckers, including Amazon and Facebook. I have been preaching to them for long but recently they achieved Illumination on their own.
As of late, I use Amazon only to locate small sellers and then purchase the stuff from them off-band :P Medium sized regional franchises are also good alternatives to Amazon.

I was meaning he might nuke the planet. We get a reboot in effect. Fix the problem, since it wont exist anymore.  Most of us wont either, but hey, change is tough.
