Advantage to 3D printers is you can build your own from scratch, and control the firmware. And unlike trying to build your own laser printer, its not hard at all. They can try to stop home builds, but as along as you can get replacement parts that are hard to make ( like the hot ends.. ) that will be about impossible to stop. That said, I do see some sort of registration being required when you buy them here soon, as an attempt to come after them. Or buy parts and supplies in the states.  "They are dangerous devices! " And not just due to firearms from this topic, but the copyright trolls are attacking them really bad and do want to setup a database of 'disallowed' prints you have to check in with first. Will only take one well funded one to buy a law and its downhill from there.         Tho i guess you could buy a super cheap one so you could buy supplies easily, then do all your printing on your 'ghost printer' ( i hate that ghost term BTW, its FUD )

As far as 3D printing a firearm, a lot depends on which components you print and the plastic you use, the caliber, and functional layout you are targeting ( no pun there.. ).  Tons of plastic framed firearms on the commercial market. i carry a commercial one daily and dont think twice. If i had to print a frame, id not think twice. ( but i have a machine shop in the garage to do the metal bits properly, and today, legally..  Tomorrow, who knows. )

CAD software, i wont be surprised if they try to register them as munitions, and take them of of places like github since it allows sharing to restricted countries. ( as an excuse ). Much like they tried with things like PGP in the beginning. ( i still have a copy of windows 1.0, with an export restriction sticker.  how far we have come.. )

CAD files and books like from Luty or Holmes will get banned here really soon i suspect.  They tried to ban CAD files once before and DO ban some subjects from ever being published.

Rumor has it that everything you print, scan or fax with your HP network connect printer goes through HP servers. The same thing will probably happen with 3D printers, they will know what you print.

Which as long as its semi auto, its totally legal to do so. ( tho i disagree that its legal to stop full auto as that law is unconstitutional ). Of course they are trying to change that, just look at the attacks on 80% AR lowers and shutting down of Polymer 80, and raiding their customers.

Including detailed instructions for manufacturing A FUCKING MAC 11. So good job there ATF.

I think if i had bought one I might cut it into 3 pieces, take pictures of its destruction, then seal it in a block Lucite or something like a paper weight to present for when they come knocking . "You want that old thing? Well, see, its just a novelty item and i treated it as such. I didnt know that it was wrong so i never contacted you. I'm sorry, and here is my attorneys phone number ".    As they will come knocking..

And no, i  didnt get one. I dont need yet another dust collector as i personally think full auto is a waste of ammo, so id have never cut it out, or ever intend to "someday".  ( now, 3 round burst or something, i have a different opinion on )

I feel the same about bump stocks.. they are silly. They make your gun less accurate and waste ammo. BUT i'd argue for the right of someone else to own one if they want one..

From the link: The ATF asks anyone who has an autokey card to contact their local ATF office. By contacting the ATF, gun owners are not avoiding prosecution. The ATF does not promise amnesty from charges.

Now they are raiding companies and citizens who bought too much stuff. ( in this case 80% lowers. which are not even regulated. they can f-off )

A quick scan of current events, witnessing the mobs of uninformed animals animated by establishment troublemakers, makes it clear that we are entering an era where it is certainly to have a full auto. A threat which presents itself as a dense, target-rich environment is exactly what a full auto is good at stopping. Every round will contact a target.

Having fired a selective fire rifle more than once,  I would venture to say most would be wasted, especially in the hands of a regular citizen, in a time of stress. Sure its impressive, and intimating, to the untrained to have that much lead coming at you but most of that lead isn't even close.

But i agree that we are entering dark times. Its only just beginning

Statements such as these should be made with caution, as we enter a state of increasing pressure to enact red flag laws.

The intent to defend yourself against angry mobs is clearly a danger sign that you're looking to create conflict - from the perspective of those who endorse the dangerous mobs.

I though the point isn't that most lead hits, it is that "some" does.

Right, i was just replying to an earlier comment about them all being on target.   Which under normal situations is not true.

I am actually surprised that some lunatic didn't leverage the kind of crowd density I was seeing in the BLM/AntiFA protests to enact MASS carnage. They had a habit of getting themselves into box canyons, too. As long as a shooter kept the muzzle down and pointed in the general direction - it would have been mass casualties. They were putting themselves into crowds where it would be difficult to MISS if you were wearing a blindfold.

It seems a lot of these folks are just motivated by the chance to be famous... and their allegiance to one side or the other has more to do with how much personal fame or infamy they'll receive for their act.

So, to me, it just takes ONE potential mass shooter realizing just how much infamy he would receive for committing an act like this - especially if HIGHLY successful.

It is like they're lining up and creating an opportunity for some wackjob who craves attention to go down in history as "The most lethal mass shooter in history."

So then we agree - the only thing that prevented it from happening is that the people who engage in this kind of behavior were too dumb to realize it was the *perfect* opportunity for them to achieve their goals.

Which is good. Their stupidity is all we've got going for us, right now. Fortunately, it seems to be bottomless.

Hello! I'm so happy to find a community of gun owners that also intersects with my computer geekery!
I have a dumb question. I'm no newbie to firearms, having grown up shooting for sport on occasion, but unfortunately my adult lifestyle has culminated in me being the most experienced "gun guy" in my tiny social circle, so I have no one to go to but strangers for basic gun stuff to which I'm at a loss.
I only recently joined the EDC train. The problem is that I live in a very warm and humid climate, and if I sweat on my carry piece for long enough I will inevitably come home to find parts covered in a layer of rust. I don't know if it's something unique about my sweat; guns that I see highly praised for their durable finishes don't stand up to my wrath! I was particularly disappointed in SIG. Luckily, I have finally settled on a G19.4 as my EDC, and both its slide and slide lock have held up so far. Yet still, I ended up replacing the plastic sights with metal night sights, and lately I started noticing that if I don't keep them sufficiently doused in Ballistol at all times, they will start to show some signs of rust after a week or two.
Any suggestions? Maybe Ballistol isn't the right product for the job here?
Thanks!
