Is it permissable for a kosher-keeping Jew to eat turkey bacon?
I suspect 'yes' but absolutely need it confirmed before I commit a serious error.

Oh yes! Even English Irish. Irish call it 'champ', corned beef with mashed potato and butter. :P
My m8 (mate/friend :) ) reckons its worse than dog-food though, he never eaten corned beef. But then again i don't know one person here in England who wears-owns a bowler hat! :)
Heh... and I think it was the English who popularized it, even here in the US. It was the working man's hat for a very long time, before it sorta morphed into an icon of being British.
Her brother and his wife invited her to go with them on their trip in November and she agreed. Plane tickets purchased, passport application filed, etc. She has never been on a plane or out of the country in her life. They're going with a Christian-based guide service of sorts, I believe.
The first leg of her flight leaves the day before Thanksgiving in the US (which is I believe the worst air travel day of the entire year). Then they go to Washington, D.C. and then to Switzerland before finally arriving in Israel. If anyone has suggestions I can pass along to her, they would be well received.
If she's going with a group, usually it's not too bad.
Just 1. she has to pack her own bag and know exactly what's inside.
2. She should know where the bag is from the time it's packed until she gets to the airport.
3. Answer questions honestly. You have nothing to hide, so don't try to hide anything. The security isn't there to scrutinize you, they're there to protect you.
4. Cooperate. Seriously, they're there to protect you.
They usually give trouble to people who are traveling alone, people who have been to conflict zones in the past, people who seem very nervous (behavior profiling is the big thing), couples who are unmarried and traveling together, people who are carrying stuff for other people.
Otherwise, she should be ok.
btw, leaving Israel is probably the only place where you can fly out with liquids. Take a nice, big bottle of juice... no one cares. at all.
don't bother taking your shoes off either. They don't care.
It's great to hear that Israel has actual security instead of "security theater" like we do in the US.

So long as it's kosher turkey (or kosher turkey bacon, if ready made).
That said, I have always preferred the "beef-fry" we got from the butcher. Pretty sure it's as horrible for a person as regular bacon, and it definitely does not taste exactly like bacon....but it is quite yummy.

My top pick is to try to get permission to be taken into the tunnels below the Western Wall. There is something about that space that is difficult to articulate but is truly amazing.
The Haddasah Hospitals are also pretty cool (and one of them has a bunch of Chagall originals that he painted for them). And the Holocaust Memorial in Israel is like nothing else you have ever seen.
On the less emotional side is the Jerusalem Old City Market area, the Dead Sea, Ceasarea (which is amazing) and a trip to the Galilee (probably the most beautiful place on earth), if it's safe. Also, though I realize she's not Jewish, if she's into the beauty of old religious buildings and art, there are some drop-dead gorgeous ancient synagogues up in Tzfat.

And when he said it, back in the late 1950s, it may even have been true!! :-)
