I get upset when they make it harder to get my work done, or even impossible. ( like taking 2 months to get fully vetted software approved to install that i got approval to buy in the first place... and it was just a freaking upgrade of what i had installed on another machine and others have .... yet they let me install gimp without asking .. even offering it in our catalog )
I do realize its their box their rules and sometimes they have no choice. But....
I still say the IT industry has become everything that i hate. And i have been looking for alternatives, but at my age, i may just have to retire out.

Unless you are being paid extras for productivity, then my official policy is if they screw with management, that is their problem rather than mine.
Places in which they care for productivity rarely face these issues, in my experience. If management does not care for productivity neither should the employees.
I know it is cynic as fuck but something I have learned is it does not pay to be the only one who wants to get a task accomplished when you are the only one trying to get it done. You get burnt and worst yet other employees end up complaining that you are at it. Not worth it. If you have a productivity mindset then move to a place in which they pay by accomplished objectives, else sit in your fat ass and enjoy the popcorn.
No, but here if you don't produce and meet goals decided for you, you no longer are employed. The 'why' you did not meet is not taken into consideration. And yes, i have seen people setup that way just to be outed. Among a few others, I had to go to court on one to produce documents, as he sued. Turned out, the documents we were told to provide supported him and his claim. It didn't go well, he got reinstated, back pay, fees paid. Of course he turned in his notice on the spot. Another i know of sued, won, and did come back, but with a different BU.
I actually was in a similar situation with another company once, long ago. i refused to steal from the customers. So they manufactured a way to get rid of me. I sued, won, and due to the 'evidence' of what was going they lost enough of their customer base to go under a year or so later. F-them ( and i was already working for another company by the time the case went to court.. got back pay, severance, 'time and trouble' etc. Not a lot in the bigger picture but it wasn't after the actual money. Just wanted to take down a criminal, and clear my name, as back then it was a smallish community and word travels.. I heard the people involved had to leave the state totally to start over their careers as word traveled and no one would touch them as employees. ( the owner just walked. he had millions saved up , but at least the gravy train stopped )

Well, that is a red flag for sinking firm, and I deal the advise I deal to my friends here in such situation:
Start looking for elsewhere to go, and accept the position you have now is one of those things that "was profitable while it lasted." Usually I tell them to squeeze as much as they can out of their current position.
They are exempt from sinking. If they were to collapse, society has collapsed and it would be total anarchy and be academic. Profit is not on the agenda, and to an extent they have no limit on expenditures. ( might be a practical limit, as it might cause a populace revolt, but in theory, no limit )
