I have heard that many people at work fear me, but are afraid to admit it. "you will tell it like it is and what you actually think"

"well, ya..... "

And during a frustrated teleconference I unfortunately let out the words "at some point, someone has to do their job."

Like most helpful hackers, the absolute worst way to make me
upset is to waste my time.  So after wasting my time for two
years on a project that should have taken a week, Those People
have decided to waste even more of it by changing all of the
specs that they already signed off on and demanding a third
redesign.

It is not a real engineering project until they change the specifications once half of it is completed.

That's great until someone throws you under the bus for it.

Most are too afraid to, since i'm always right.   But at this point, what can they do? i'm working on leaving in the near future anyway.

Around here if its 'unjust' you file a grievance with the workers board, and you normally win.

Well, that is disappointing.  I guess representatives from our various BUs are not permitted to join our weekly CMR meetings anymore.  We should encourage their participation, not block it.   Or at the least have a 2nd meeting where they can join and discuss concerns/hear about changes/etc.  While i do understand security concerns and am all for that, ( more than many around here ) transparency to our customers is also important.

But i don't drive this boat. At this point i don't even paddle, i just ride. And continue to pack my lifeboat as that iceberg slowly approaches over the horizon..

"Planned cleanup of empty folders on shared network drives older than 60 days"    Ok that makes sense, its a waste of resources and makes it harder to find things.  "Estimated 1.5 million to be removed"

LoL

Dunno why it took me so long to figure out:

1. I am unmatched in creative problem solving and ordered reasoning.

2. I am reflexively rude towards people who carelessly waste my time.

3. After my accident in the data center seven years ago, I now walk with a limp.

IKR? I'm Gregory House!

LoL.  Part of the process to make remote work so painful you want to come back.

Why even bother with automated incident creation based on monitors if people are not going to bother to use the data.

Lets do it all the hard way !!! yaya!

Neat.

Soon we are going to be getting MFA prompts all day long, even if we are on shop owned devices on the internal network.

Subject: The Job Offer

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So I was working at $job[1] and one of the customers asked me for my CV in front of my boss. It was kind of fun, actually.

Anyway, this time it sounds kind of serious. They are running applications as a service for a number of state institutions, some of which require frontend instances numbered by the hundreds.

I actually sent my CV through but I don't think it will reach anywhere. I am the optimistic kind, you know.

The real question is how could I compatibilize yet another job with my life at this point.

You need to start hiring employees to work all your jobs for you!

That is... kind of tricky.

Law here makes it so if you hire somebody you are nearly marrying him. And people in my country are unproductive lazy bums for the most part. You hire somebody and you end up paying through the nose for getting no job done.

Incidentally, I think that is one of the reasons why getting an ok job here is so hard. Everybody knows you are gonna be a lazy bum because everybody else is, so why bother hiring you?

Subject: The back-ache

[Reply] [ReplyQuoted] [Headers] [Print]

So, this monday I was supposed to replace a bunch of printers for new ones at office. I was setting one up and suddenly I got an acute pain in the back.

The boss there told me to sit behind the desk and do no heavy work whatsoever. When he caught me setting another printer he got a bit angry and told me he was considering chaining me to the chair.

Oh, well. I hate it when work piles up.
