It surprised me but Old Forge has gotten too commercial.
Apparently American Airlines doesn't outsource their abuse to security or the police, they abuse the passengers themselves. Take the abuse, or we will get you thrown off the plane and on the Do Not Fly list.

The last time I drove through Old Forge, it didn't seem a lot different from when I went there as a kid...not horribly commercial, at least on the main drag.
working as a life guard in the number lakes. I spent a lot of time up
there.
Maybe I have just gotten old, and childhood innocence is gone, but I
thought it was more commerical, more crowded. I don't remember the
bigger hotels being there. I remember McDonald's being built, that is
now gone and replaced with some other fast food. Howard Johnson is
gone.
Maybe I don't remember all the billboard signs along the way.

I haven't driven through there since my wife's grandparents sold their cabin in Indian Lake...but now that I think about it, it may have been nearly 20 years ago, now.
Old Forge was on the way between Indian Lake and Utica, and I drove right through. I was just happy to see Paul Bunyan still standing there. :)
I grew up in Utica; in fact, that's where we'll be headed just prior to
our road trip to visit ye olde familye.
I lived there from early 1968 to late 1980...moved to NJ just before my 13th birthday (and literally a week after my bar mitzvah).
I still have cousins in Utica and the surrounding area, but only one with whom I'm at all close. I was in Rome, last summer, for his wedding.
Ever get to Oneonta at all? We just moved from there to North Carolina this last year, but still have a 24 hour deli there.

What Citadels, if any did you call when you lived in chewdica?

Nope...truthfully, I rarely get up there, these days...only 2x in the last couple of years, and not very often before that.
There were two, primarily, and one RemoteAccess BBS (Powerline BBS). I just can't remember the Citadels, but I loved them dearly.
Wizard of aahz, you should check out the Yellow Deli (right on the corner of Chestnut and Main st.)
I have many good friends there, and you can let them know bennabiy sent you, and they will take good care of you :)
Fri Feb 17 2017 09:44:53 AM EST from IGnatius T Foobar @ UncensoredLooks like I'm going to be in Chicago towards the end of July this year. Anything interesting to see/do there (other than "try not to get killed") ?

My return flight connects through Atlanta. It's a Delta flight, of course.
Deliver Every Living Thing to Atlanta.
If anyone in the NY area (upstate or not) would like to stop by the Yellow Deli in Oneonta, I would love to say hi (food on me!) I am only going to be up here till Friday morning, so please let me know :)
(IG, I would love you have you at our deli! Let me know if you can make it.)
