Writing software is great fun. Writing software with other people has to be one of the circles of hell.

Will 2024 be the year that I finally quit bitching and jump ship to go do something else?

ah ok.

Here coke and Pepsi are the same price, so i wasn't thinking along

the same lines.

Really?

I just checked and in more stores here there is a price difference.

But then there are LOTS of white label knockoffs, which are the ones people would use as haven. In fact they are already using them as haven because many can't really afford the expensive ones.

Might be a few pennies difference but they look the same as i walk down the isle heading out to the registers, so not enough difference to notice "oh, that is cheaper"  However i did notice if you buy Pepsi syrup, its the same cost as the **far** better soadastream version ( that is sold in another area, where i do normally go ). ( since Pepsi now owns them, you can buy small bottles of syrup at the grocery, not have to go to a food service store and buy a 50 dollar box )

But yes you do have the store brands.. cheaper, but even they are more than they should be, since often times they are not as good as the other commodity brands, which i cant stand :)   And of course you have the 'craft' brands, which are stupid priced.. even more than they used to be. I should have been selling mine the last couple of years... doh!

( i did just look on krogers site, which is our local mid-west chain, as of today its 2.99 for both coke and pepsi 2 liter.. so same exact price for us here )

Statefarm is apparently now embedding auto feedback links in their emails ( i forget the actual term for those things ). So they can track if you read them ( or so they think ). Im sorry, but that is invasive, and wrong. i of course have that crap blocked since its a trick for spammers/scammers, and potential viruses too. Just got a paper letter " we tried to email you, but it wasn't received". No, it was, i just have that sort of crap blocked. Grrr

I hate alarms, always have so instead have always used a clock radio so i know when to get my butt out of bed ( already awake, but don't want to stare at the clock.. )

This morning, coming out of the speaker "we thank you for doctor xyz climate emergency physiologist for being here. Before i could get to the thing to turn it off ( it was dark, and normally i dont bother, it turns off in 60 minutes on its own anyway..  )  "bla bla green award for college students forcing a conversion of a power plant from coal to solar bla bla *CLICK*"

Great way to ruin a day. Grrr.

These morons need to start by removing themselves from the 'green equation'   They are wasting valuable earth resources by existing. Their immediate recycling, and reduced 'carbon foot print', as they say, will only improve things.

Is your dog so big that you can ride him? Or is he riding you as you let him lay on your back while you carry him around?

Sorry, I could not resist.

I know everyone is tired of listening.. so feel free to go on by.

Was out near where i grew up. I thought they were going to be spared from the destruction due to some road work that cut them off from civilization in effect.    I was wrong.  Sign is up, and at least 100 acres of land mowed down "coming soon!  housing development, apartments, strip mall, restaurants"   F-them.

And in the town i live in, the very last bit of farm. still has a sale sign up. 75 acres. But its just a matter of time before the developers buy it that are encroaching on it now.  Just want we need, 350 more houses, on top the other 1000 + at least 1000 room ( estimated from the number of windows... ) apartments that just went up a mile away from my house.

I freaking hate this area. It needs to be burnt to bedrock and let nature reclaim it.  And if i could, id push the damned button.

After spending 99% of my life in Linux for 20 years, when I come back to Windows the horrible UI decisions they've made over the years really stand out. MS Office is an absolutely intolerable text editor. I paste stuff into it and it removes whitespace I wanted to keep. I hit the home key to return to the beginning of the line, and it goes to the beginning of the entire email. I move the cursor to insert text, then move my mouse and start typing, and after a couple of keys, it suddenly starts inserting text where I had moved the mouse to.

I used to use mutt for all of my emails, but people would complain to me that whenever I responded to an email thread, it stripped all of the RTF. "Good," I'd tell them. "You don't need it. I want you to see my email the way I wrote it." But eventually I got tired of the bitching so now I actually use Outlook to send emails, and it just pisses me off every time.

It's no wonder the non-tech-savvy among us think computers are hard to use. It's because Microsoft does everything in its power to get in your way.

I'd never tire of their bitching. They can deal with it, or choose not to read my words of wisdom.

At least with WSL and the like a Windows environment doesn't have to be stone knives and bear skins.

I would keep using Mutt because I rejoice in bothering idiots. It is one of my biggest pleasures in life.

I am lucky because none of my jobs requires me to deal much with Microsoft at all. I am the IT-in-chief in one place and the other is a FOSS shop. FOSS shop has some Crapple but other than that it is 90% Linux and BSD.

I don't like the direction Linux UI is taking either. As a console/standalone WM dude, when I try an actual desktop environment it tends to feel very Windowsy.

i have stuck with lxde since it came out.

Used to use KDE in the early days.. until it became too inconsistent and bloated ( i hear its not as bad now.. but no need for me to go back, nothing i run is a kde app.. )

And must be nice, i'm stuck with Microsoft.  But at least soon, i wont need windows for anything. Tho its down to about 90% web now there is still a bit of windows every so often....   ( well, unless i get pissed off and quit before we migrate to the new platform that i support )

LXDE is very nice, but a bug in PCManFM deleted a lot of my naked horse pictures, and a bunch of documents that needed to go into publication the next week. I had to recove from backup and it sucked.

KDE now is much better than it was on its early 4.x days, and it is most likely what I will install for a n00b who insists in something good looking. Workstations at $@job usually get XFCE because it does not rape RAM as hard and it is still very functional and well supported.
