Hey LS - I spent some time talking with those who really know.. And
there is not a continuity error. You have to look closer and know the

clone wars material.

Yeah, I guess. There's some wiki pages out there that explain all that, so I've got it now. What happened with that character does seem a little ridiculous, and apparently following Star Wars *major* plot points has now become a full-time job, requiring encyclopedic knowledge...

Yeah. That's not ever going to be me. I enjoy the stories. But I have too many other things where I follow all the plot points and I don't see Star Wars being added to the list.

It's pretty simple: they're sacrificing quality for quantity (although even that is not exactly true if you include the prequel trilogy) for the anthology series, in the pursuit of a fast buck. There's already plans for a 4th trilogy, which apparently is going to be all Rian Johnson's baby. Disney will be cranking out a Star Wars movie every year from now until the end of time. First it'll cease to be special, and then it'll also cease to be Star Wars.

Wait, Rogue One already ceased to be Star Wars. Instead, it's Full Metal Jacket in space.

With the new cadence of a new film each year, it has ceased to be special, and with Disney, it has ceased to be Star Wars.

Comparing it to Full Metal Jacket gives it too much credit.  Go ahead, find *anyone* at Disney willing to attest in public that Han shot first.  Kubrick would have been fine with that.

I think they're fun movies and enjoy 'em. Maybe I'm just crazy that way. I think the criticism is just a little silly at times. They're movies!

<Sort of spolier alert> In Solo, Han most definitely shot first. I think it was a jab at Lucas.

Oh yes, I was screaming that in the theatre. He shot first! He shot first! ;)

Han Solo is a million times more alpha and awesome than, say, Harrison Ford.

It might be time to have this conversation again (I don't remember whether we've ever had it here). Somehow we got to talking about the "modern classics" and I was telling my son (whose name is Wesley, named after the movie character of the same name but he spelled it wrong) that there are some films that are simply required viewing for anyone who likes to use clever quotes from those films in everyday conversation.

So, fellow humanoids ... what films would you include in that list?

I'll start...

* The Princess Bride (of course)
* Monty Python and the Holy Grail (naturally)
* Real Genius (at least among nerds, and I don't keep company with non-nerds)

About ten years ago my niece said she watched "Ferris Buller's Day Off", I asked her if kids still found it funny, some references from the eighties may be lost on a younger generation.   Her response was "Well nowadays everyone skips school."

"The god-damn Germans aint got nothin to do with this."
"Why thank you nice lady."
"Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?"
"He hates these cans!!!"
"This goes up to eleven."
"As god as my witness I thought turkeys could fly." (TV)
"English mother-fucker, do you speak it?"
"Randy lay there like a slug…it was his only defense."

There is a meal replacement product called Soylet, made from SOY beans and LENTils.  Horrible name for a product, clever but horrible.

Office Space (obviously)
Spinal Tap (from which zooer quoted, but didn't name)
Animal House
Blues Brothers (These last two are almost the same thing)
Ghost Busters
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (if for no other reason than the 'why a spoon' quote)

Don't forget "Drop the gun. Grab the canolis.."

and the spoon quote is a family favorite.

Wizard of Oz (the old one with Judy Garland)... nearly forgot about that one... lots of stuff there, like, "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain."

There was another Wizard of Oz without Judy Garland? That's ridiculous. That's almost as bad an idea as having Batman without Adam West.

"Oz the Great and Powerful" came out in 2013. More-or-less a prequel to The Wizard of Oz. I saw it in the theater, where Melvin and I both agreed they cast the wrong actor for the lead role, as he lacked a certain sparkle.
