They probably created their powerpoint presentations back when they started to teach, a few years ago and were too lazy updating them.

The RDB2 Workshop tutorial actually uses DB2 at our university.

I once tried a few things I found in an Oracle based rdb learning book on mysql... didn't work. Hurray to standardized query languages...

I remember when 'softies criticized non-native applications because they had a "foreign look" to them. Oh, they said, everything would be so confusing because the users would have a "jarring experience" from all of the non-Windows-looking chrome on the screen.

I'm looking at a 'doze desktop right now and seeing no fewer than four different look-and-feel on the screen. Ironically, Microsoft itself is the biggest offender; Office hasn't used Windows native chrome in a long time, and Office 2013 looks horrifying. There's a softphone on this screen, with dark controls pretending to be a 5" OLED. There's the Google Chrome browser, which seems to follow whatever the hell it wants to in terms of UI/UX.

Ironically, the only Windows-native window decorations I see anywhere on this screen are on a Cygwin terminal, whose sole purpose in life is to offer a more unix-like command line.

(I'm deliberately not including the apps from my Linux VM that I have open in seamless mode, because I know that's not fair.)

whew. remembering that Nokia had to waste a whole year in re-developping their smartphone hardware basis on a soc of a company they never worked with so they could run windows 7/8/ whatever...

THIS sounds desperate.

Kids are learning computers on non-Windows platforms again. This had to be stopped.

Of course, it's the crappy (I mean even crappier than normal) version of 'doze that only allows two programs to be open at once, and it'll have no desktop, only "modern" apps.

So basically it turns your Pi into a crippled version of Surface RT.

I think it will catch on.  I think I read somewhere that they were reviving Microsoft Bob and Clippy to help the children program without the sharp edges that would otherwise be present in non-directed programming and without any hulking IDE's.

They're going to encourage schoolchildren to use the Pi to achieve Bill Gates' lifelong dream of developing an easy way to factor large prime numbers.

Because they are bringing out new versions of Outlook and Office?

after trying to punch a touch interface down the throat of their users with windows 8 ;-)

... it seems their best Idea was to get their cash cow working mobile is to create a good keyboard for those...

we all know they abandoned touch windows a decade ago because of office wouldn't run on it...

Microsoft typically wrote stuff for offices, so they could be productive, or whatever.

Not quite sure how one goes about removing the keyboard in favor of typing your word documents and handling your spreadsheets without a keyboard, but they oughta figure it out, yes?

yes, no comparison to the cherry G80 - 5000, but a good start. I'd prefer a regular G80 over it however.

The article suggests that Microsoft needs an intervention. I disagree. I think it needs to be put down. :)

"Microsoft: OIN or GTFO."
