What is this about them re-branding Azure AD to "entra" ?
Entra is "Identity As A Service" (IDaaS).
It's basically the same thing as "Outlook 365" not being Exchange Server even though that's exactly what it is, just modified for massive multitenancy and stuck into their cloud.
Pretty much every Microsoft cloud service depends on it in one form or another.
Well I needed to run some Windows exclusive software, so I installed Windows 11, and BOY OH BOY IT SUCKS! It eats SO MANY MORE RESOURCES than Windows 10! GUI bugs. Defender eating resources and stopping me from installing software I need. And get this, I was using Tiny11, a stripped down version of it! It ran so much worse than non-stripped-down Windows 10! I'm trying Tiny10 next.
And no the specs are not that bad. Dual Core i5. 8 GB RAM.
Just wait until copilot is mandated, so reads all your activity and saves it.

Too bad Microscum is about to kill off Windows 10. I hope the ReactOS developers eventually get it together, we need a functional ReactOS now more than ever!
I donno, i might say "less bad" as 10 still sucks. Even if you do strip it down with Tiny...
And dont hold your breath on ReactOS, while its a nice idea and i commend the goals, they have extremely low funding and they are chasing a moving target that gets more and more 'walled' as each MS version hits the street. Switching to wine subsystem some time ago helped them, but its still not enough.

THat people puts themselves voluntarily through this is retarded. I was playing with an old Windows 7 computer earlier last month and wondering how people felt when they bought a new machine and it ran at 10% the speed of some 14 years old piece of junk.
While not a fan of MS, Win2000 was decent.
Took them a long time to get there, then its been downhill ever since.
Apparently so does some ( most? ) apps.
Found out this the hard way when i attempted to move my home directory to a NAS when i was having some hardware weirdness, so as a plan B if it went up in flames all i had to do is power up a 2nd box, poof back and running. Not done that in decades so did not expect any issues. Plenty of bandwidth ( 10g network ) and NAS speed was fine too.. But, it was unusable. Even my freaking music player bogged down.
Sure i could have done some mapping of cache folders locally and stuff, but was not about to go thru that much trouble

I put Debian 12 on it and it's beautiful. All hardware recognized and working, XFCE installed, no problemo. Could use a small SSD and another 4GB RAM (it only has 4), but even in its current state it is completely usable. Firefox gets me where I need to go. I might flip it over to Alpine Linux instead, since I've had good luck with a similar box at work.
There must be hundreds of thousands of machines of this caliber sitting in closets around the country. Millions more will join them come October. All because MicroSloth insists people go buy a newer machine. For what? AI? TPM? Fuck no. It's really sickening.
We geeks could gather these boxes up, stuff them with SSDs and gobs of RAM, and give them out to people who need a machine. But nobody wants them because they won't run the latest Windows shit.
Ya arbitrary obsolescence. It should be illegal.
AI isn't yet part of the formula tho, its mostly TPM > x ( i forget which version ) and CPU rev > X ( again, not sure the # ). Totally arbitrary and its just because intel and AMD want to sell stuff. AI mandate will do it again in a couple of years im sure. I remember it happening with drivers too "well, win 7, we don't have video drivers for that laptop so you have to upgrade to 10 as well", or "nope, cant upgrade to 10 or you lose your video and network, that hardware does not have new drivers" ( getting a machine with vista and trying to put on 7.. had that problem too , but there were hakarounds )
Consumer electronic are way past the stage of 'new = better and faster' and what they have now more than meets thier needs so this sort of tactic is all they have left. Really only need so much power to watch cat video.. Beyond that its not going to be noticeable.
Have to give Google credit on this. ChromeOS Flex will save a lot of those from landfills. Part of why they created it. Now, if they would just add android support like 'real' ChromeOS has.. it would be a no-brainier for many.
My old xeons that can still eat current 'average model' desktops for lunch ( not super high end desktops .. ill admit they are slowly slipping ), cant run 11. So first hand, it's got zero to do with actual need.
Along the lines of Tiny11, heard about "government edition" this afternoon. A stripped down version for some governments that refuse the extra crap...
Personally cant say if its safe, but most think its legit, at least in concept. Who knows about the ISOs around, could be legit, could burn your house down and eat your wife.. who knows.

A lot of people does not care for the latest Windows shit. . Most digital illiterates would rather keep using the Windows version they managed to semi-learn forever. My mother would pester me into installing XP on every machine she got to replace broken hardware until it became impractical to do.

I don' think they see through the marketing. They hate computers so they don' get exposed to marketing nor IT media. They just want to keep using the same thing.
Lots of times what they use is awful, and they know it. But they don't want to learn something new.

As usual, Microsoft is blaming a third party (in this case, Crowdstrike).
But the fact is, they are still publishing an operating system that allows this kind of thing to happen. We knew how to do better than that 30 years ago. No excuses!
And of course I do recommend the death penalty for Bill Gates, for this and for everything else.

100s of toasted servers for us this morning.
1000s of toasted desktops, and the calls keep coming in ( i watch ticket trends, since its my system ). Seems that the only ones that survived were the ones that were turned off last night. Which in theory should be none. But we all do it at home at least.

I agree windows is designed poorly.. But crowd strike was acting recklessly with thier patch, not properly testing, no easy rollback, etc.
