Is this a federal law, or a State law, on ECU mods and insurance
fraud? I'm surprised I've never heard any mention of this in the

I think it breaks down like this: you can't make any false statements. If you did, that's fraud, if you didn't, it's not.

When I bought this car and set up the new policy, they did ask me: "Any mods?" and I answered no.

What's a mod? Well, doing an LS swap would certainly be a mod. Is a flash tune a mod? Maybe........

This is all sort of academic, because how would they ever find out. But...

I've heard LOTS of complaints from people who have tried the
Continentals. I haven't heard anything about Potenza, really - and I
get mixed reviews about Pirelli.

This video convinced me to stay away from the Bridgestones:

Skip to about 14:30 through 16:00. Tl;dr: the Bridgestone wore out much more quickly on track and this was confirmed across multiple independent tests.

Its 2022. Why are we even talking about tires? Why doesn't my car fly?

I was promised flying cars. And cake.

You can eat cake, though.

Not unless i make more. I finished off cake from this weekend already.

And i guess i *could* have a flying car.  With enough TNT it will fly.   Not long, not far, and not usable after, but it would be airborne...

My wife set up the insurance - and being that we bought it from a dealer, I'm sure if they asked her "any mods," she would have gone, "we bought it from a dealer."

Seems like that would probably hold up in court. I imagine if something came up, they did find out there is an aftermarket exhaust and intake - and they bitched and said, "you had to say it wasn't modded when you got it..."

We would go, "grab the recording, and let's see what we did say..."

And go from there... I think things like this - generally run over people who don't have the assets to fight it in court - but if you lawyer up and settle in for a battle with them - they tend to go, "screw this one, let 'em off the line - more trouble than it is worth to pursue it through the courts."

Yeah, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is widely the most popular tire on performance cars at the moment. They're pricey - but they seem worth it.

yeah, it's narrowed down to those or the Conti ECS. Will get the PS4S if they remain available... not quite warm enough here for summer tires yet, so I may snap them up mail-order so I have them ready to go... availability has been spotty lately.

Bought the Michelin PS4S. From Walmart, of all places; I think my size might have been discontinued. Availability has been very spotty lately and I had to have these shipped to my house, which I've never done before.

The last set of tires i got for my jeep i had delivered.  Tossed them in the back and had them installed at a place up the road one afternoon.  i *could* have done it myself but its a pain in the neck.

Well, that explains the poor sound from the sub in the Fiero ( not the tiny OEM one up in the dash.. i built a cabinet to sit behind the passenger seat 20 years or so ago ).   The suspension material in the last speaker i installed ( perhaps 5 years ago ) had an almost invisible tear. Doh.   Oh well at least i know the amp is still good.  Stereo got swapped out too.

( taking it out to replace it with something more modern and 'manufactured', instead of a huge heavy wooden triangular cabinet, covered matching material to the carpet  ( it was shaped so you can still lean the seat back. its not like there is much room in these things to play with )

After i get the motor mounts changed, might be thinking about putting an electric AC compressor in it..   Instead of putting back the original one on the engine ( weight distribution.. etc )

Then finding a place i can rent for a week or two and paint it.

Finally getting off my butt and doing something about the things that have been nagging at me for a while now.

Ya ya, i know. Its not a fancy M3 or something, but i like it.

got the PS4S installed. these are good for this car--they just about hit the sweet spot. slightly softer than the stock run-flats, but firm enough that they don't feel bouncy like my General G-MAX AS-05 used to.

brand new front pads and rotors, too... pretty much set for the track.

annoyingly though, I ordered this from Walmart, who sourced them from some random third party, and they're 2017 production because this size is discontinued. 225/50ZR17 is not the "cool" size.

not sure wtf I'll replace them with, when the time comes. hopefully the PS5S will be out by then and they'll do a production run of this size.

they feel great though. perfect balance of sidewall stiffness. I'm sure that even at almost 5 years old, they're fine for street use. whether they can take track abuse is a separate question, but it always is...

I would not trust them on the track.  Rubber degrades on the shelf.

Well, after several years of stalling on making a final choice, i finally decided to order a 12v electric R134 compressor for the little car.  Going to retrofit it instead of putting the 'traditional' compressor back on the engine. Means im not putting that extra weight back on the rear wheels too.

It should work, in theory.  Have to make some new lines, but that isn't all that hard. Might need a bigger alternator.

Yeah, Walmart kinda screwed me.

These were manufactured in week 40-something of year '17. So they're *almost* 5 years old, but not quite.

[6~Turns out the Trillium chapter requires <6 years on their inspection checklist for the HPDE I booked in Pittsburgh for Jun 7-8. So I squeak by this year but might get refused next year and certainly 2024.

Maybe I wasn't really expecting these to last to 2024 with track abuse anyway, but for tires with a 30K warranty (rare for a summer tire) I was certainly hoping to get more than one summer out of them.

Man, i really need to get that AC fixed in the little car. Took it out some today. Even tho it looks like crap and people point and laugh due to the ( lack of ) paint.. I miss driving it.

But, heat index of 95 + an engine 6" behind your head.. WAY too hot.

MR2?

it was muggy AF yesterday morning. Only about 68 degrees but the humidity was off the charts. I ran the window unit AC for the first time this year, until the haze burnt off a bit.
