I've learned today that the code I spent the week completing was not expected to be finished until significantly later, if at all.
I was semi-jokingly referred to as a genius.
I needed that boost, after this past year. Although I don't know if it'll yeild cash results in the end beyond a paycheck at a temporary job.
Sometimes the endorfins are worth more than the cash. So long as you're not going hungry and shoeless, that is.
Me too Fleeb. Hope you can make the best of it. I am headed for what I feel is micromanagement / justification of your worth land as of late. Not looking forward to it.
Y'know, thinking carefully about my job history, I've had a damned charmed life.
Not a lot of people get to do the kind of work where they play euphonium in a foreign country for a couple of years after working as a journalist for a year, then work on a large program that helps people install software on windows machines over a network, then shift into a field that involves streaming a/v data over a network to a number of people and weaving captioning into the output to go to air, to my current job that involves instrumenting software to monitor what goes on within the operating system so students can be automatically graded based on the actions they took (thus learning how to mess around with hacking Windows into doing stuff it wasn't really designed to do).
That is, I seem to go from radically different kinds of work, and It Just Works.

Nope. The customer is always in charge. Big difference.
The customer has the right to be wrong
congrats, Fleeb. Stay safe, Sig. If you get a chance to hop over to Israel, I'll be happy to buy you a coffee. (I know, we're not really that close, but sometimes stuff happens)
Certified Ethical Hacker is a pretty silly certification. I don't think it
would have any credibility at all if it were not on the DoD 8570 list and
basically a required cert to do IT with DoD. I'm very leery about giving
them any of my PII after the latest and greatest hack of the EC-Council site
and their utter non-response to it. Not that I have a choice.
But hey, at least the class is free.
But hey, at least the class is free.
Tell me about it. The more I learn in this field, the farther I want to take myself off the grid, sometimes....
Since I normally work in an environment without any internet access (or my
phone), it's at least novel being where I'm sort of expected to be messing
about with a computer. I gave up on taking notes, and now I'm just reconfiguring
my laptop and installing things and whatnot.
