Yeah, it sucks to know you're earning a certain income, but discover that you only get to use half of that (or less) after taxes.

It's worse in some other countries.

And, yeah, maybe that's what the stupid test was all about. Dunno.

Ig, I understand you but realistically, who are you going to vote out that, after he or she is replaced, we will suddenly see more money in our paychecks? I know I've been told (a lot) that I'm too negative, but it doesn't seem like the kind of thing that will ever get better. Kind of like everything else in life.

If you read back a few messages you will see that I specifically wrote "pitchforks and torches" -- not "vote"

That you did. My mistake.

Heh... might get a little extra work.

A Certain Canadian Company cannot provide a proper playlist of events to people reading their XML adapter. They expect people reading their playlist to deal with magical go-back-in-time events that overlap with existing events when dealing with live stuff.

Our response is to charge the customer a couple grand to, yet again, work around their screwed up playlist generation.

No other automation system does anything like this. I don't know why anyone dares to use this stupid system. But, hey, it's some more money for me, so, I don't really care.

One really hopes that fleeb is not doing the Mo' Money dance.. That is a scary thought

No, not doing any dancing.

Honestly, the engineer in me finds it frustrating to see this degree of inefficiency... otherwise I probably wouldn't have posted anything.

But the money will help.

An excellently amusing video. And chilling, too.

Heh... honestly, I think it's funny that you probably know more show tunes than I.

That said, I do happen to really like that particular movie.

fleeb - it's funny, ironic and rather true. Just the way it's worked out. I worked backstage for summerstock for Cabaret, so the lyrics are stuck forever in my head.

Aaah.. I see.

You know, there are two versions of the Money song. I bought a CD with the other version, thinking it would be this one. I prefer this one, but the other one is kind of interesting. I wonder if I can find it somewhere.

Aahz, I don't think I've ever met anyone who knows as many show tunes as you do.  Including actors.  Rather impressive, really.....

Sig, Is that a positive or a negative in your mind?

If you do end up going, then may you return safe!

I hope your deployment to Afghanistan is uneventful. At some point, someone suggested I might be able to find work for an insane amount of money there, which was tempting, but he didn't get back to me about it.

As it stands, I found work elsewhere today.

I have a six month contract now, working for a company that (among many other things they do and make) teaches cyber security for a pretty penny.

I enjoyed the interview with the guys today, and they seemed to enjoy the interview with me. At one point in the meeting, I think we were workshopping solutions for the primary problem they wish to solve, which kinda suggested something good was happening.

After this job, I will probably have something documented to show I can create device drivers for Windows. Now, if I can also show that I can create device drivers in Linux...

It's mixed. I thought it was a completely lost cause when I was there in 2006 (while everyone else was Surging in Iraq); my opinion has not improved.

But I've been wrong before. And there is a remote chance that they can unscrew themselves enough to survive on their own. If I had my druthers, we would have pulled out immediately a few years ago instead of doubling down on stupid, but as long as we are there, we have to give it our best shot. If they collapse back into anarchy, it won't be because we didn't try.

Aside from that, I am really good at my job and I like fighting.
