That's really interesting, thanks for sharing it.  It's funny how they had to do these kinds of things when everything was "inband"

By now you've heard that Florence Henderson has died.

What you might not know is that Robert Reed and Ann B. Davis are already dead, so if anyone was playing Tic-Tac-Toe on the Brady Bunch title card, whoever was Player "Dead" just won.

Oh... that's a great form of tastelessness that I shall savor for a few minutes.

OMG.  This is the greatest interview ever.

https://youtu.be/VZl37py_rOQ ]

You might have heard of the group "Demand Protest" which is purportedly paying $2,500/month retainer plus $50/hour to political protesters.  Tucker Carlson interviews the head of this group.

Trust me, you will love this interview even if you hate politics.  It doesn't really go into politics.  It is epic.

Trust me,

Why would I ever to that?

As a side note, you can embed videos now?

To embed a video, just grab its embed code from YouTube and then hit the "HTML" button in the Citadel message editor and paste it in. As a courtesy to text client users, always include the direct link as well.

And here's your bizarre factoid of the day:

You know those "The Best Of..." albums that are released when an artist has been around for a while?

It turns out the guy who invented the phrase "The VERY Best Of..." for album titles, was actually the uncle of MST3K writer Michael J. Nelson.

Kind of funny :)

I am more amazed that phrase was "invented"

After enjoying a Netflix trial for a couple of months, my wife has consented to letting me "cut the cord" on our TV service. She seems to understand that paying for cable funnels money to ultra-evil entities such as CNN and ESPN even if we don't watch them. It will also save us somewhere between $50 and $60 per month ... possibly more, but eventually you get into a point of diminishing returns where "just Internet" costs more than a bundle.

So let's say we have a $50 budget for over-the-top services. Some of that will go to a Netflix subscription. We probably need something else to supplement it. Dear Lazyweb: which service would be a good replacement? She likes mysteries and sci-fi. I don't watch TV, and the kids don't care. The only requirement is that any OTT service we purchase must NOT funnel money to CNN or ESPN.

I would also prefer services that are compatible with ChromeCast, which we already have on every screen, but that's not a strict requirement.

I think you'll find it hard to avoid those two networks when everyone bundles them in with a bunch of other stuff.

Unless you want to completely unplug from all of the content from the major carriers and go with alternative content from smaller players, I don't see much hope of getting away from giving those two a little money.

"Thirteen channels of shit on the TV to choose from..."  -Pink Floyd 1982

"Over 120 channels of shit on the TV to choose from...." updated lyrics for 2017

I looked at the basic package, out of the sixty I might watch seven.

Also "57 channels and nothing on" (Bruce Springsteen, a former musician, in 1992)

Some people like SlingTV due to the channels they include in their packages.  DirectTV has a streaming package as well.  That is for live TV.  There is also Hulu for after the fact TV.  Youtube TV, Youtube Red and a couple more I can't remember right now.

I looked at YouTube TV's offering on IG's behalf.

It doesn't fit his specs.

It has a number of channels, but ultimately, you'd wind up supporting ESPN if you pick up the service, as that gets bundled in with the other channels.

Wait... when was Bruce Springsteen a musician?

I vaguely recall him being relevant in the music business in the 1980's.
People from New Jersey went to his shows in a futile attempt to consider New Jersey a real state.

SlingTV is apparently just the online version of Dish Network.

Hulu might make sense. Does it have shows that were "on cable" or only the broadcast networks? We're probably going to keep our broadcast networks, because they are viewable without the expensive set top boxes, and dropping TV entirely would actually cost more. Damn bundles.
