She never likes my responses, no matter how reasonable and polite. She asked if I'd been vaccinated, I said no, she asked why, and I gave my now-standard response: "Because I'm a stupid evil redneck Nazi who doesn't believe in science." Now I was absolutely joking in my manner and not nasty in any way, but of course I got the few seconds of disapproving silence followed by the quiet sigh. You'd think her Bible was Dan Greenberg's classic "How To Be A Jewish Mother": "Let the child hear you sigh every day. If you don't know what he's done to make you sigh, he will." It's a variation on the sound she made when I said I wouldn't even get into the whole 'definition of vaccine' thing.

So despite our general moratorium on this crap in any venue, whether text or email or phone calls, she keeps emailing the occasional blurtings from the usual gang of idiots, ahem, Trusted and Reliable Sources - you know, the guys who denied and covered up the deliberate Soviet famines, and published lies about "weapons of mass destruction" literally because the Deep State fucking told them to. Remember that, Mom? Back when you and all those people were screaming NO BLOOD FOR OIL? So I get emails forwarded from the Walter Duranty Blog, and the Jeff Bezos Blog, and I do my best to ignore it. But I should have known she would take it as gospel when the FDA weighed in on ivermectin. Sends me some shit about why you shouldn't use that to treat Covid. I replied with nothing but a link to the 2-page PDF just published by the FLCCC entitled "On the Totality of Evidence":

I have never considered ivermectin a silver bullet or a miracle cure, nor have I ever referred to it in such glowing and uncritical terms. Ever since last spring when Karl Denninger's writing brought it to my attention, I've thought that it absolutely deserves broader and deeper investigation, and everything since then has only further strengthened my opinion. There's an overwhelming amount of evidence showing it to be incredibly safe after many years of human use, and the greatest risk in trying it appears to be limited to some people's bank accounts. And yet the more the evidence grows, the more vehement and irrational the reaction becomes against it and anyone researching it.

I then figured she might see a link to a PDF and think it was some huge long thing, so I let her know it was a mere two pages.

Her response was twofold. First she responded with another link, to MedPage Today, and the single line: "Clearly, this is a complicated issue. <x>, however, got vaccinated." Now I understand if she's busy but right off the bat that just sounded short, clipped and dismissive, a slightly longer way of hand-waving away actual discussion with "it's complicated". I replied: "And of course I would never condemn anyone for making the best possible decision with the best information they have. But I avoid discussion of this and many more issues because no matter how delicately I phrase anything, all people seem to hear is me calling them stupid."

A little later I get the party of the second part. To wit:

"Can't say I read every single word but enough to get a good idea."

...of two not even full pages, written in pretty plain English and with a minimum of jargon? From someone with a fucking doctorate which requires among other things taking classes in formal logic?

That's pretty fucking weak, Mom.

And of course it's not like this PDF is the only thing I'm basing my decisions on. It just came out. But I think it makes a pretty tight case for saying "JUST BE HONEST AND QUIT IGNORING THIS SHIT BECAUSE IT'S CHEAP." My current general thinking: Don't be fat, don't be deficient in vitamin D, supplement with D3, C, zinc and quercitin, and consider ivermectin, nebulized hydrogen peroxide, and nitric oxide nasal spray as low-risk therapeutics.

I know not all can do it, but a few of us ( both family and friends ) who disagree like that just agree not to bring things up.  The hard feelings are just not worth it. No one will change their mind, it just makes people angry.

And yes, I doubt I'll go so far as to tell her this, but the reason nobody gives a fuck about hypocrisy, double standards and false equivalence - yes, on the right as well, if nowhere near as widespread as the left's which is nearly universally defended by large power centers and cultural institutions - is very simple. In war, you hurt your enemies, and help your people. And people like my mother have no clue, and will brush off and rationalize away and ignore even the slightest and best sourced evidence of even the most mild insanity. That is, if they don't wholeheartedly defend it - in complete opposition to their own supposed enlightened and egalitarian values or even basic common sense.

My sister said something outrageously partisan when I was in Sacramento. I just talked right past it, as if it hadn't even been said. She got a confused look - my adult niece, standing by, raised her eyebrows in a "I see what you just did," face.

Recently he posted a meme - you've all seen it, showing a cut-away of what intubation looks like with a dire warning that this is what you face if you don't get vaxxed.


I called it out - with data. I provided links to the total number of global cases of the Alpha wave, the total number of hospital admissions, the total number of those that required ICU - I couldn't find hard data on how many of those required intubation. The point was - this is a very graphic, emotional, vivid, and unlikely example used to justify vaccination - and it doesn't reflect well on those demanding vaxxes when they use scare tactics not unlike Reefer Madness propaganda to get their way.

One of his friends, a Nurse - jumped all over me about how I didn't know. She had lost two of her patients. I should just sign a DNR so that healthcare doesn't waste resources when it happens to me.


So - you all pretty much know me at this point. She got it with both barrels.

Most savagely, "They weren't your patients, they were the attending physician's patients. You're just a nurse. Run along and change bedpans."

Of course, this created a SWARM of ugly nurses calling me "fucking ignorant". (By the way, this woman nurse - she could spell resuscitate - even with the help of spell check. She just kept saying DNR... she was also a "I told U Ur stupid" kind of girl.)

So, anyhow, ONE nurse goes, "Well, we see what your friend thinks of your career," to the guy who started the post.

And he goes, "I noted that..."

And I responded, "did you note that your friend basically suggested that I should just go die if I get sick? Did you note that all my data was cited and peer researched?"

Silence from him, of course. His friend telling me to go die was fine - he was willing to let that slide. But he was deeply offended that I noted the FACT that nurses aren't physicians.


Still waiting on his apology. Not holding my breath.
