Wait... Does this mean she'll come get you if you get injured during a non-business trip?

Just trying to understand the conditions and parameters.

If I'm on a non-business trip, chances are she's already with me.

Then it's none of our business.

I'm heading out on my fourth trip of the year next month. What kind of injury should I get?

I think you should break your pinky finger of your dominate hand.

Ooo! Sprain an eyebrow!

Spraining an eyebrow sounds fun, and close to something that actually happened a few days ago. Maybe not an "injury" but it was weird.

I have a tendency to smirk a lot, usually just to show happy approval of whatever someone might be saying to me. This time around, I smirked and actually got a muscle cramp in my face. It was the weirdest feeling thing.

About fifteen years ago I used to bike commute to work - it was fun, but then the company went to hell, and I was in the 50% of workforce that got shitcanned (fuckers waited until I finished a flawless installation that was 25% under budget). Then I got a job where I worked out of my car, so that killed that.

Last year I started biking to work again, which was a lot of fun, but the Minnesota winter is not so fun. I know people who bike all winter long, but they are all from Minneapolis who does a much better job plowing than St. Paul, which leaves a trail of deep icy ruts on residential streets. So I'm trying out an enclosed e-trike to bike this winter, complete with heater. It costed an ungodly amount of money ($11,000!) but has been really nice when it's been pouring rain and windy, so I have high hopes for this winter. Despite the price, I think I've paid about a 1/3 of it so far just for not paying for gar and car repairs over the summer.

This is a short video where I walked around it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjoBYWIPEuU

I've since added the heelwell to keep the breeze from coming in from underneath (nice during the winter, but now that it's a degree or two from freezing not so much), but haven't had to use the heater yet. Because of it's unique nature, I'm doing more of my own bike maintenance like tighening up the disk brake.

I've tried to do a video of my biking in it with a cheap gopro knockoff, but I don't want to use permanent adhesive for the camera and I haven't found a command strip or substitute that works well enough to keep the camera on the inside roof, and there's no reason for me to spend money on something more elaborate that nobody else is going to watch.

The first thing I hear is why isn't it cheaper - and my guess is that there's just not enough demand for full-on production. But I figured people spend their money on boats and other things, I'd just spend it on this.

Well the video is still listed as restricted, waiting for approval. Once it's available I'll take a look. I like the idea though.

Now I got into it.. Silly Google.. Anyway. This is awesome. how much water / snow comes up through the bottom?

Not sure about snow, but even with the heel well off, no water unless I'm going through a very large puddle at top speed. It's not water-tight; the windows are plastic and water goes get through the side windows. It's not a problem while riding, but can be if you leave it outside at work when there's a heavy rain all day long. Whoops. It doens't affect the seat, but I did have to do some mopping off of water from the fabric on the bottom.

Did an hour bikeride this morning with the temperature eight degrees - did nicely. I did find that when it gets that cold I need to turn on the heater so I don't over-fog the windshield; I also have a USB fan to help with that. Was a couple degrees warmer and didn't need the heater for a 7 1/2 mile ride. I started from home to a branch office, then to my normal one, and have another ten miles to bike home in a few hours.

Extreme ski legend Dean Cummings was just charged with murder; now held without bail in New Mexico.

This is all very bizarre - he ran a well-known heli-guide outfit, H2O Guides out of Valdez and was relatively peerless after Doug Coombs died in La Grave. I know a guy in NH who was a heli pilot for his operation.

But apparently he's been sliding into paranoid schizophrenia in recent years. The guide operation collapsed after he took a bunch of client deposits and ran. There's a whole sordid thread on TGR that sadly predicted that his behavior would end in violence.

athos, is this vehicle something like an e-bike? People are raving about how much they love those. I think they're neat but I can't seem to understand what makes them different from a moped. Part powered, part manual.

I alwasy throught mopeds could be either pedal or motor. Could be wrong - never ran into many. The PEBL is class three ebike, which means instead of pedal assit, there's a throttle and the rider doesn't need to pedal; because of its weight (200+ pounds) you won't go much faster than 12 mph. I pedal it all the time, because I bought it to bike in bad weather, and if I didn't want to do that, I'd use my car.

Most ebikes only turn on the motor when pedaled, so they require effort. Most people use them to extend the range of where they can normally bike, help with hills, etc. All the different classes of bikes specify the motor disables after 20 mph, so going any faster would require full pedaling.
