Just got back from the Super Mario movie. It was EXCELLENT.

That does it for me. A Mario movie described as "EXCELLENT?" I refuse to believe this is reality anymore.

This is what you get when you remove Hollywood from the equation. It

wasn't woke, it wasn't stupid, it was just lots and lots of fun. First

time I've seen the inside of a theater in years. Worth every penny.

It honored the video games without being corny or stupid. The score
brought in elements from the video games in a classy way. The
character origin stories were believable (as much as can be for the
genre anyway). They even made Princess Peach a strong female with
"girl power" without making her a feminist nazi.

They are using the Mario movie as a symbol of the anti-woke struggle around here, which obviously means I am already bugging my friends to go watch it.

Nope! We've been a Nintendo family for many years. Also I am Italian and know how to repair plumbing.

The movie was THAT good. The news that there is absolutely NO Hollywoke crap in it got my butt into the seat; the excellent animation, storyline, music, and nods to the video games kept it there to the very last frame.

This does not come lightly! The last time I was in a theater was Kung Fu Panda (2008) -- ironically, another animated film featuring the voice talents of Jack Black.

Tarkovsky's "Solaris" with English subtitles is on YouTube at the moment: https://youtu.be/Z8ZhQPaw4rE

I finally got to watch it. It was certainly worth the ticket price.

Bowser's kingdom looked like a great place to live in if you are a Metal or Rock guy.

Also, my friends pointed out that Lumalee was the movie's version of myself when playing RPGs or cooperative games, because I have a bad tendency to laught my ass off when plans go wrong and sprout lines such as "OK, we fucked up, but we may still die quickly so the suffering is over soon." I actually struggled not to fall on the floor laughting.

It is funny you menton that.

I once dreamt I was part of a security team at a millionaire's party. Some Islamist terrorist showed up and suddenly I woke up in Hell and got told we all had been killed and now we were Satan's slaves. I was told to join a production line that was manufacturing weapons for Judgement's Day.

So at some point I was assembling a plasma rifle and some demon lashed at me with a whip. I decided I had had enough and blew his head off, then jumped on a table and yelled: "Why the fuck are we building weapons for Satan, when we can keep them and rule Hell ourselves?!!"

The rest of the dream was about the rebellion in Hell in which the doomed souls basted demons left and right until we reached the gates to Satan's throne room. Just as I was getting ready to shoot the doors open, the alarm clock went off and woke me up.

I hate alarm clocks.

I have seen nothing interesting so far. I got to watch some movies from the 50s instead which looked more promising. I loved one in which Robespierre is beheaded by his own followers because he was such an asshole.

I suspect we have already seen the best movies the year had to offer us. It is a bit disappointing that the Dungeons and Dragons movie didn't get much of an audience because it was way better than I was expecting.

well, plenty of footage to use. If they used real artists ( like the old days ) im ok with that. CGI is way over used.  sure it has its place, but not in every freaking movie.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (family pick) was not as bad as I was afraid it would be, but it was too long and too slow in the middle (Zzzzzz...), and makes Crystal Skull look good by comparison.

The rules of Karma serve you the slog you signed up to watch.

I watched the teasing trailer. Harrison Ford looks like one of the mummies he would have run across in one of the earlier movies. I say they put the franchise to rest.

Well, they did sort of bury it with the crystal skull.  ( which is a shame it could have been decent..  )

That they kill off Indy and replace him with a Mary Sue type, not even going to bother with the latest. it does not exist to me.   If they wanted to have him hand over the whip and retire, sure, i'm good with that..  But not what i heard the plot was about.
