It had to be very, very, very bad for that to happen. Now I want leaked material to check how bad it really was.

I heard that they messed with the original story too much and tried to turn her into a woke it-girl. But that might just be the bias of the places I read about such things.

Best gag of the month however is that they're now referring to She-Hulk as "Green Karen".

I no longer care, but when She-Hulk was release, the usual humor webs I visit were suddenly flooded by lame jokes and puns which featured she-Hulk being woke and having wokeness backfiring at her. I thought it was meaningful.

So there's a film coming out in November that is a biography of Weird Al Yankovic. I still can't figure out whether it's a real biography or a parody of a biography. I have to assume that Al himself has blessed it because he plays a minor character in the film.

I'm so confused. I want to see it but I really want to know what to expect.

Since Al is in it, it has to be accurate.  He doesn't need the money to do garbage.

My standard procedure these days is to illegally download it so I can watch it without having wasted money if it was bad.

I used to buy a lot of DVDs and VHS back in the day, but nowadays the chance of films being too bad means that paying to watch anything is a bad investment more often than not.

I tend to do that too with unknowns, but will support the artist if its good. ( mainly music, i dont watch much video.. )

Netflix, while i do have an account ( mainly for my mother to watch, but she cant handle the menus now, too confusing ) and since i "paid" to watch a show, i have zero issue getting a local copy for when they pull it.  Of course nothing new comes out from them worth anything it seems, but in the past they had a few good ones ( like most of the marvel stuff, or the first season of altered carbon..)

Cinema as an art form is mostly dead at this point. It's like they've forgotten how to make good films, or they've lost the willingness to do it right.

Everything now is either a "franchise" film, or a propaganda piece pushing the kind of depraved values espoused in Hollywood ... or both.

They have not forgot, its all about agenda now. They have the cash. and since distribution channels are mostly a monopoly, they can do what they always wanted to do, push.

I also think that the films themselves have devalued as a product, so there is less incentive for making good ones. I have experienced similar issues with other products.

Just imagine there is some creative activity you are good at, and there is some distributor willing to pay megabucks for your products if they are good, because the distributor knows they can resell them for big money. You would absolutely do your best making said products, because the distributor is gonna make you rich and love you, and the distributor's customers are gonna pay megabucks and love you, and everybody will be happy.

Fast forward 20 years. The distributor is no longer willing to pay much because their customers don't care much for quality, and there are so many creators you are nothing. You are not even guaranteed that anything you produce will be bought even if it is good, and if it gets bought you will be paid a box of used chewing gum. What you end up doing is taking a cheap, used idea that is guaranteed to sell, and produce something cheap and fast because you don't give a rat ass and neither do your customers.

That makes more sense than I care to admit. That is exactly what happened to the music industry after the regulatory framework changed in 1996. Once there was no limit on the number of stations a single company could own, the big pigopolists such as Clear Channel, Cumulus, and Citadel (no relation) gobbled them all up. There was no longer a need for A&R because it was better for them to manufacture new acts instead of discovering them. It's a great racket: find some good-looking young people who have some minimal amount of talent, skankify them to look good, hire Max Martin to write some songs, record them with no-name studio musicians, and monopolize the airwaves. It's a formula that guarantees a bland world of uninteresting cattle feed music.

The only reason there's still any good music at all is because consumer-grade gear can now produce the same quality recordings as an expensive studio, and it's possible for indie bands to be discovered on the Internet.

Now it's time for the people with talent to circumvent the people with money in cinema, just like they've done in music. 4K and even 8K cinema-quality "filming" and editing are now available to even the most frugal of consumers.
Believable CGI is just starting to get there. Or for the moderately funded, it seems plausible that a decent indie film can be made for half a million where the pedophiles of Hollywood would spend half a billion.

Bring it on. I'm sick of the slop and I'm beyond sick of Hollywood's deplorable values being preached. In the mean time, I've got my favorite old Christmas movie ready to roll this weekend, because it isn't really Christmas until Hans Gruber plummets from Nakatomi Tower.

Frank warned us of the industry in the 70s. No one listened. Not even his buddy Beefheart and got himself screwed.

I also mostly listen to indie bands, and really always have been as far as style. Even when the bands were still on the big labels out of necessity ( 80s/90s ) id pirate the music, then send the artist a check. That way the industry didnt get the $ but i was sill supporting the artist so they could make more.

There are a couple that are still stuck in the system, but very very few.

Oh, sure you can still produce and distribute good stuff on a low budget, but selling it is a different matter.

My buddies and I can gather and create a music band and do somehting great, but it is very hard to have anybody other than your family listen to your stuff just because there is so much competition. As a consumer, it also gets hard to find this people.

Everybody cries "kickstarter" and "patreon" to me at this point, but let's face it, for any of those to work you need to have a critical mass of followers already. If you get a crowdfunding campaign stated with no support you are gonna suck and die.

What I am doing nowadays, in face of this issue, is consuming and rediscovering old stuff. There are enough hours of audio and movies recorded already that we don't need anymore produced EVER.

That's kind of the point.

The crap coming out of Hollywood is now so terrible that low-budget indies have a shot at competing for mainstream audiences just by producing something watchable. It isn't even necessary to get into theaters anymore. All they have to do is get carried on Netflix or Amazon or whatever. The barriers to entry are lower than ever, and they are only going to get lower.

Meanwhile, the pedophiles of Hollywood have lost the ability to produce anything even marginally decent.

Just got back from the Super Mario movie. It was EXCELLENT.

This is what you get when you remove Hollywood from the equation. It wasn't woke, it wasn't stupid, it was just lots and lots of fun. First time I've seen the inside of a theater in years. Worth every penny. It honored the video games without being corny or stupid. The score brought in elements from the video games in a classy way. The character origin stories were believable (as much as can be for the genre anyway). They even made Princess Peach a strong female with "girl power" without making her a feminist nazi.

The critics hate this movie. The fans love it. I hope everyone who panned it for not being "diverse" enough gets so upset that they drop dead.

That does it for me. A Mario movie described as "EXCELLENT?" I refuse to believe this is reality anymore.
