oh boy. why's that microsoft linker _that_ slow? my not very fresh linux system takes about 20 seconds for linking the arangod.
the wintendo needs 5 minutes for that... RLY?
when I rip a cd, I use db poweramp
I rip 5 types of files....
FLAC
APPLE AAC
MP3 128 FOR THE CAR
MP3 320
MP3 320 VOLUME LIMITED TO 94 DB FOR DJ ING
With my 3700k this all happens at the same time
opinions? ideas?
@tinkertoytech on the twitters
abcde
the last time I used that lies in the dormant past.
Why all of the different codecs? I can see the car and DJ purposes, but why
so many others?
As I might have mentioned before, I have a friend who owns and operates a dance studio. We barter services, I get dance classes for my daughter and she gets me for editing all of the music and other audio and directing sound and lights at the recital.
When I mix the music tracks, I master it twice. There is a "recital mixdown" which needs to be as high quality as possible for the show, so I use FLAC there. But the files are huge, so I send the teachers a "rehearsal mixdown" which is in MP3 format and about one-fifth of the size.
Different tools for different jobs.
So ... in case anyone cares, the MP3 patents seem to have expired.

Fraunhitler has not applied for any renewals and is discontinuing the licensing program. MP3 is effectively an unencumbered format now.
I dont think most people have cared about the license for a long time.

Ah, 2017, when The Register hadn't yet gotten into the habit of criticizing
USA policy from the perspective of their San Francisco office.
