He wanted his works to be what he wanted.. Not how anyone would interpret what he wanted. Especially at the end where he couldn't be certain.

Like what happened with Frank Herbert and Dune?

I actually did want an answer to the question about what the "discs" actually are in DiscWorld.  I'm not planning to read the books.  What are they?

A) You should read the books.

B) Regarding discs.. It's one disc.. consists of a large disc (complete with edge-of-the-world drop-off and consequent waterfall) resting on the backs of four huge elephants which are in turn standing on the back of an enormous turtle, named Great A'Tuin (similar to Chukwa or Akupara from Hindu mythology) as it slowly swims through space.

C) You really should read. You'd apprecaite the silliness.

Aha!  "Turtle swimming through space" makes a lot more sense than "What's the turtle standing on? / It's turtles all the way down"

You should read it.

I love the ambling pace of light in that book.

I just like the combination of silly and sharp wit.  But the imagery is kinda awesome, too.

I agree with the version of democracy. Is how I like to run a team..

"Ankh-Morpork had dallied with many forms of government and had ended up with that form of democracy known as One Man, One Vote. The Patrician was the Man; he had the Vote."

Everyone knows that there were five elephants in the beginning!

@IG: What's stopping you from reading the books?

If you fear to waste time on fictional literature, start by reading The Science of Discworld. Every second chapter is non-fiction and very entertaining. Especially the chapter about the weird FPGA experiment is something that I really enjoyed and would probably never heard about without that book. Same goes for the Burgess shale, etc.

Nothing specific to Discworld or even Pratchett in general.  I'm just not much of a reader.  If I had the patience to sit down with a book I'd probably read them all.

Fair enough, I posted some reference to the FPGA stuff in the Techie Talk room.

I love reading, but haven't done a lot of it for entertainment lately.

Hm.
