I figured out side was a regional variation of "out sick".

In Ohio, he "called off..."

Kind of like the first time someone asked me, "are you going to come with?"

"Uh... come with what?"

I speak Californian. It is a soda, not a pop, not a coke. It is a couch, not a davenport, and it is dinner, not supper.

Hella.

If you ask me if I want a coke and I say yes and you ask me what kind...

I'm gonna look at you like you were dropped on the head as a child.

The only possible confusion is "diet or regular".

:)

Tsk... Southerners.

That's Californian? Seems perfectly natural to me. It's also New England/New York speak, and it's obviously the one true english

Well to be fair, there is a rainbow of actual coke branded flavors. Last time i was in a 5 guys they had a digital coke machine.  Cherry, vanilla, orange, zero, etc...

But ya, where i come from its all coke.  Even the stuff i make from scratch i call coke.

This video made me realize a few things about the vaccine's distribution. I thought two doses were required for the vaccine to work at all. According to this video the first dose give a protection rate of 85%, the second dose increases it to 95%.  In the video they argue that giving more of the population first doses will help reduce infections and save more lives than giving fewer people two doses.

Give as many first doses as possible, wait until production catches up and then give second doses.

I think it is pretty standard US speak for sure - but I think that you're way more likely to have someone in New York as you if you "wanna pop widdat?"

Where anywhere in California, that will get you a raised eyebrow and a, "Oh, youse guys got pops? Wha flavas youse gaht, huh Vinnie?" in response.

Yeah, but I think the assumption in California is that if you want a flavored coke, you would ask for that specifically.

If you ask for a "coke" on the West Coast - you're going to get a straight coke. You're going to get regular coke.

Which makes me think... a coke, a "real-sugar coke," and a "Mexican coke" are three specifically different things. If you want either of the former two and you ask for the first one, you're going to get the first one.

And of course, then there is "a Mexican coke," and "Mexican coke." Which are also two different things.

Interesting. I was asking my wife about this last night, and she had no clue. Good to know.

There is also a single dose vaccine out there, and two different two dose vaccines, I guess.

Unfortunately, my wife has become a Biden supporter and heavy Democrat donor since taking the vaccine, and refers to me as "The anti-Democracy terrorist" all of the sudden.

Agreed. At 85% efficiency - distribute first doses to everyone first, then once that is taken care of, circle back and do second doses. The only people who should be priority second dose before 2nd round should be those in immediate health risk of having severe complications if the 85% isn't good enough - because face it, 99ish of those getting vaccinated would not develop severe complications even without the vaccine.

Honestly, i dont believe a thing that guy says. He waffles all the time. Even admitted he lied to the public on more than one occasion. Feeling he was the self-appointed arbitrator of truth or something.

" If you catch a liar and ask him the reason for his lie, do not believe that reason. You've already established he is a liar. He will use your trust against you again. Fauci is a liar. He has lied multiple times to the American public during this pandemic. He is lying about the reasons for his lies, as well. "

Around here we call our carbonated soft drinks "soda" -- but even that is ambiguous, because there are places where if you ask for a soda, they assume you mean seltzer.  Soda water.

Coca-Cola got its name from its two key ingredients: Coca leaves and Kola nuts.  Most people know that it was originally considered a medicinal drink.  I wonder if it cures the china virus?
